Jeremy airjer W
I remember seeing a campgroung in Minnesota feature on an outdoor show. There claim was that it was vertually mosquito free. This was because of the unquie geology that let water soak into the ground quickly.Anybody know what the name of this place is?My wife and I have been thinking of taking our family there for a weekend and for the life of me I can't remeber the name of it and I haven't had any luck searching the DNR webpage. Hastings gal
Look up Whitewater State Park. It says on the MN DNR Web site that it has few state birds. Keep Smiling.
Jeremy airjer W
Thats the one! thanks Hastings Gal. I thought it was in southwestern MN thus the lack of results on my attempts to find it.
BLACKJACK
Thats good to know! We're staying in Whitewater for three days in mid-August!! Does the same go for the other state parks in SE MN, because of the lack of lakes? I hope so, because we're also going to Beaver Creek and Sakatah. Was out last weekend to Lindberg by Little Falls, the mosquitoes were tolerable with a little bug juice on but when we went hiking the horse flies just about ate us!!! They were swarming around us, 20-30 at a time!
Eric Wettschreck
Sakatah isn't too bad with the state bird. There are some there but with a good dosing of deet you can stay west nile free.
irvingdog
Beaver Creek Valley state park is also mosquito free, and really cool! I like it a lot more than Whitewater. They also have cart-in tent sites. hey provide you with off-road carts to haul your stuff into the sites. They feel isolated, yet you can get all of your goodies into them without killing yourself! Ryan_V
Hey Boilerguy,We went to Sakata last year and the state birds almost carried me and my 30' camper away they were so bad!! spend most of the evening in the camper or at least in the screen tent!! hard to get away from them completely, but if you do the right things, they are tolerable
Mongro02
We stayed at this Lazy-D Campground near Whitewater...They claim to be mosquito free. Here's the link:http://www.lazydcampground.com/index.htm
not_nuf_time
Both Whitewater and Lazy D are somewhat mosquito free, they say because the whitewater river is spring fed that the water is to cold to breed or hatch mosquitos.
Big Dave2
Is there any decent fishing in or near either of those 2 state parks mentioned, white water or Beaver creek?
irvingdog
Trout streams in and around Beaver Creek can be awfully fun when hit at the right time.
jig n' jerk
You might want to try forestville/Mystery cave state park. It has some good trout fishing, and a pretty cool cave tour where the temp is always cool. As for mosquitos they are none existant due to the cold flowing root river and a very healthy bat population. Check out this site!! http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_parks/forestville_mystery_cave/index.html
smmurphy
I've gone to white water nearly every year for the past 10 years and the trout fishing is fantastic.
jiggin pig
we actually have a campsite down there and i have been going to whitewater for years. I think it is some of the most scenic area to trout fish with all the bluffs. I go down there about every month or try to. did i mention the fishing is good.
