LMITOUT
What does everyone use for minnow containers....moreso if fishing in a portable? Don't think I've seen this question asked and curious as to everyone's favorite technique.
BK19
i just use the cheap styrofoam bucket type
Jim43
I use the same thing, just go out and buy yourself a cheap styrofoam minnow bucket. Its a must to keep the water from freezing. I went and bought some minnows 2 weeks ago and have been using my styro bucket to keep them in and have only changed the water 2 times in that time. Only lost one minnow in that time. Angler Don
i put the styrofoam minnow bucket down into a 5 gallon pail, it is a perfect fit. Then use the little padded seat which snaps onto the top of the bucket, it doubles as a chair.
Hoytmystic
I use a plactic folgers can, with a lid. Works great, and the best part I can keep bait for a long time in the frig.Kyle Curtiss
huntingmaxima
I have a sister that work for a pharmacist and they have heavy duty square styrofoam coolers that they get their meds. in, so just go to your local pharmacist and ask for them. She said that they get so many, that they just throw them out. They work great and the price is right.
hawkeye43
I use a 6-pack cooler from Igloo. if it does freeze, you just give it a rap on tht top and the cover comes off. it takes all day for the water inside to freeze. you can punish them alot and they hold up. Proctor Pete
I would second that part on the styro coolers from pharmacies. I've used them for many years and just fashioned a handle for it using sheet metal and bungee cord. sturdy enough to hold the vex or other heavier stuff too.-Pete
shinde
5qt ice cream pail w/cover when moving around. Works great, no spills
Jex
I've been having good luck with the Frabill Min-O-Life bucket. It is insulated and comes with a battery powered air pump to keep them alive longer.
efgh
In this area you can buy a small styrfoam minnow pail that fits in a folger coffee can, I have had one for 3 years, no problem, the can adds weight to keep the sty. bucket up right and from blowing away. jltimm
Anyone here have a Klutzy friend or two?I do,and that's why I cannot own anything styrofoam for fish'n!
icehousebob
When I buy minnows, I put them in a plastic 12 pack cooler with a hinged lid. When running and gunning, I transfer some minnows to a small six pack version for my sled. I got them at garage sales for about a buck a piece. Styrafoam buckets aren't good at our house. Cats love to claw them open and one of our cats is good at catch and release of minnows, all over the basement floor.
Dan Thiem
Styrofoam bucket.I have had a couple that leak in the garage floor and then freeze tight to the floor. Kind of hard to kick loose and not break it.
rod bender
I use a orange juice picture that I bought at Target. It's got a blue and yellow top. If it tips over it doesn't leak and it fits down an 8" hole to refresh the water. Only cost a couple of bucks. Wouldn't purchase another minnow bucket. huckleberry
I took an old water jug/thermos with a screw on lid and use this. I love the screw on lid which lets me toss it into my otter sled without a second thought of spilling my bait.
zelek
I too use a water jug with a screw on lid. I think it's an igloo (about 2 gal and has a nice wide top). I like the fact that I can put it in the back of the pick up and I never lose water anymore--even when driving on lakes with deep snow and not much of a track. If you get stuck or hit a drift kind of hard...no problem!! The minnows are where they're supposed to be when you need them!!
hanson
I like the Frabill Min-O-Life buckets. I use the smaller one in my Otter Den. It doesn't break, doesn't tip over, and it is right where I need it with this little mod. Long runs you need to bag the minnows and rubber band the top or you'll lose about half the water. I use the larger bucket in my Otter Lodge. Its mounted the same way but between the seats. Works Fantastic!
1lkstage
I've got the similar frabil. Had it for probible 10 years, plastic outside, insulation inside. Unbreakable. about 2 gals, flip open lid. Keeps'm good for about a week, just keeping them in my truck. Bringing them in on the really cold nights so they don't freeze to bad. Occationally I'll put a fish aireator in them,(has the hole on top). add alittle snow, when it gets warm. Only thing is I wish the lid was offcenter for dumping out, to help get rid of the stragglers.
tonyjor
The whole lid comes off of the frabils so you can dump minnows easier. Be careful the foam doesn't fall out and break though.
1lkstage
Didn't wan't to force it .Mayby I'll try again. Break it, get a new one, same one of course.
catchnmall
I just bought a aerobait bucket from Gander Mt. Works good and is very quiet. It runs about 3 full days on 1 D battery.

Remove the yellow top, place plastic on bucket, snap cover back on. This provides a reusable waterproof system for transporting.
EBass
I have the frabill fish n sit or whatever it's called. A 5 gal;lon bucket with a foam insert is what it is. Works for me and my buddies.
Jeremy airjer W
1lkstage, I just bought the same thing friday at the farm. It was about $8. I was tired of the plain styrofome bucket lids freezing shut not to mention worring about breaking it. Used it on Saturday for the trip to red lake. Had it in the back of the trck while we headed to the spot and didn't lose hardly a drop of water. not to mention it held up well with all the equipment banging into it.
