McGurk
I saw it already: empty cans and hand warmers last Friday. Sad, only hours of fishable ice and there is already garbage at the access and on the ice. Lets make a collective effort this year to stop if we are doing it, confront if you are seeing it, and pick it up if you come across it. Chalk it up under "New Year's Resolutions." Merry Christmas! minnesota mac
I was out on a metro lake a few years ago, after I parked I got out of the truck only a few feet a way someone froze a couple of beer bottle's in a hole. It had just snowed and about a inch of them was sticking up. Boy that would of done some damage to a tire on the ice.

Paradice
The people doing it can't get it through their heads that all the batteries, bottles, wrappers and whatever other dump they drop will end up on their dinner table in one way or another. Good post guys, i hope it catches on.

The Grebe
Ice fisherman, hunters, bird watchers, you name it, just about anyone within any body of outdoor user groups, can turn up being a litter bug. Outdoor enthusiusts don't have a lock on keeping the world clean! The same people that throw their dump on the ice, in the woods and fields, or along the waterways, are the same ones that empty their ash trays at stop lights, throw their fast food bags out the window, throw empty beer cans, pop bottles, beverage containers, and just about anything else, onto the ground, anywhere they go. A slob is just that, a slob and that is why we have a word for it...a person could preach all they wanted and it would'nt change it, I know, I'm related to some slobs! They might not do it after a preaching, or when you are around them, but they are going to do it, probably as soon as you leave! If you asked them to donate some time to clean up a waterway, "Noooooo, I did'nt put it there!"I'm sure some people don't think they are littering....last week when I was hunting, I found where someone had left the remains of bear baiting, sacks tied to tree, old grainy looking stuff on the ground, this is littering. I've found it before, old barrels, plastic from old bread loaves, all kinds of junk...I bet they never gave it a thought after they were done hunting! Trappers leaving the white 5 gal. buckets, Conibear cubbies, it's litter!I'm sure we are all guilty of littering at one time or another, a gum wrapper, a piece of fishing line, bottle caps, butts, things that blow out of the boats, out of the pick ups, or slip from our hands, little insignificant things that pile up over a period of time. But I do believe that if once in awhile we took the time to pick up a few pieces of litter, to make up for the ones that we might have inadvertently left, it would make a difference and it might make an impression on someone if they see us doing it and the next time they get ready to throw something, maybe it will make them think? hanson
I always carry a couple plastic garbage bags with me on the ice. I'll be watching out for myself as well as picking up trash around me.Something I just realized that I toss onto the ice all the time is matches. After I light my heater or lantern, the matchstick gets thrown on to the ice. I guess I resolve to stop that behavior. I know its a very small piece of wood but it all adds up. psegriz
Never thaught about the match thing. Guess I'm guilty of that but otherwise I'm not a litterbug. My truck is proof of that.
BRULEDRIFTER
flick the ash off with a few quick filcks of the finger. cherry is gone, butt in a pocket, its that simple. i do it all the time. they may be small, but when a few guys hang out and smoke a pack a day while fising, thats quite a pile. why do these people throw trash around everywhere? do they think theres a little garbage fairy picking it up for them? if you have the room to pack it in. pack it F'n out!!! RogersResort
Actually about all we can do is pick up after them, a few words and a small fine is not going to change a lifetime habit…
Kingfisher55
Sad but true if you look at the slobs who leave the garbage you will also likely find them to be the same folks who keep everything they catch, move in on your spot, over bag and in general are selfish could careless about the future guys. Your actions speak louder then words!
CrappieJohn
Go to the outdoor discussions and clean-ups forum. Snoop around the clean-up threads and some answers to the problem might pop up.
