Who's muzzleloading and where?

Recommended Posts

We will be heading out this Friday near Ortinville, doing a little bird hunting on Friday then trying to find the big boys on Saturday. This is my first time to this area muzzleloading, I guess a lot of corn came down this week so we could be in for some fun walking the grass. Good luck and be safe.

My brother, his friend and I will be hunting up in northern Saint Louis County. My brother and I's second year, and buddy's first year. It's great to get out into the woods after the crowds have left and do some hunting. I also enjoy this time to get to learn the deer better. You get to learn things like, does the rut continue this late into the year? Have the does herded up yet? Do the deer respond to calls better/worse? Are they using the same trails as during pre-rut? Are those big bucks that we rarely see during daylight hours of gunseason, moving during the day now? Little things like that, really help paint a better overall picture of deer behavior. The more time you have to study them, the more you can learn.

I hope to get out Sunday night in the Long Prairie area. I may try to sneak in a bowhunt Friday night if my Dad's willing to watch the grandkids for a few hours. Ladies weekend away, gotta pay for all that huntin' this fall. I think the deer that weren't pressured much are still pretty much in their fall spots still. My Dad saw a dandy buck at his place last night run across the road in front of him, right about dark or just after I think. Still a lot of standing corn around here, close to half of it I'll bet.

I won't get out until Saturday evening and Sunday.

I'll hunt in the Underwood/Battle Lake/Henning area. I have not decieded which piece I'll hunt yet, it all depends on the wind and weather conditions as to where I will go.

I will be out Saturday morning east of Battle Lake.

One of two spots, and not sure which one to go to yet.

I have to come home Saturay afternoon though.

My sons birthday.....

Might try behind the house Sunday.

PS - Coming up Friday to go get my 2003 rifle kill from the taxidermist... laugh.gif

Hopefully we can bring him another before coming home Saturday. Although, I never hold out much hope for a biggun this late in the year, but ya never know. It happens.
