My brother used to call me Hoss, and some guys we bartended with picked up on that and one of them like the sound of Hossienda por favor. When I worked in the bars, nobody knew my real name, just Hoss or Hossienda.

It is the same as my Iowa license plate! My wife and I were fortunate enough to be able to acquire a seasonal home on Fish Hook lake just north of Park Rapids. Fish Hook was one letter too long for a license plate.

Mine was given to me by my relatives and friends pretty much. I normally fish these 2 lakes all the time and if they want to go out and catch fish I'll just take them out along if they want to go no matter what the weather is. My dad soon starting were going to take the guide and go out fishing. And since I only fish about 2-4 lakes in that area the name LocalGuide kinda got adapted on here. So no I am not a guide...yet! wink.gif

When I first started FM I was at St.Cloud and fished Mille Lacs all the time, I just schooled my buddy one day on the flats and he returned the favor that night on the rocks so he called me mudman I called him rockman

Was sitting around trying to think up a name for my boat/potential guide service and came up with Daze Off - both for the time away from work and the effect that spending the day on the water has on me.....I think much more clearly after a day on the water when I can get free of all the junk associated with everything else.....

Daze Off

It was after a long day of ice fishing on Big Red and we had closed down the West Winds. We met some FMrs (if you can believe it) and they invited us over to a cabin. (Ninetoes cabin) After being told to eat a live minnow, Ninetoes asked my what my nickname was, I told him Nels (short for Nelson) and I believe AC/DC was playing in the background, thus he came up with my posting name and told me I had to register when I got home...which I did and I don't regret it.

Another innovative name. My initials and one of my favorite fish to catch and eat. I love to fish for all kinds of fish, but cats are tough to beat.

Gissert, that's a tough one to beat. That might have been my grandpa. Except for the fact that he's been gone for many years.

    • Yeah it was a beatdown
    • Your kid needs to stay with him!👍
    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
