Jim Hudson
We all have that one tip that we always share with all our fishing buddies. Its so good, that we even share it with those we dont even know... Kind of fun to see what folks come up with as theories and or hardfast things they always do when on the ice. So, what is your top tip for the ice game?
ZKnuckey
always hook your waxies in the tail thats where you will get the most scent out of it.
Jim Uran
Drill more holes, if you aren't catching them where you are at... MOVE!
Brad B
don't be afraid to think outside the box and try different things that you normally wouldn't try. try to step out of your comfort zone and expand your knowledge by trying new lakes you've never fished before. you may just find a gold mine especially on a smaller lake that doesn't get excessive pressure. JuanArellano
Do your home work first off.. 90% of the success you will have, is what you make it. I am known as a hole drilling machine, like Jim said if you are not on the fish move tell you find them. I am a firm believer in the theory that, the more first drops you have down a hole the better chance you have of get the bigger fish out of the school. Jim Hudson
I agree with the hole theory. I always tell folks "Another drilled hole is like another cast - just like open water fishing, we rarely ever just sit in one spot and cast over and over again without catching any fishing". Mid-Lake Rock
One of my favorites: Don't leave fish to find fish. I have an impatient friend that always wants to move, even when we are marking schools and catching fish. If you like panfish, read Bluegills! by Dave Genz. Jason Hamilton
Always be active, even when on fish have someone in the group moving holes or drilling new ones. Following the school will keep the group on fish. ALWAYS retie, check line/leaders and retie often. Each bite could be a monster and you don't want to think about the fish that could've been... Kevan Paul
Creepworm GOOD POINT! last year we found good fish in 18" of water and 6" of ice. I was surprised how shallow we found those fish in. The thing is it don't hurt to look.
Rick G
Have a game plan! Study a good map, find 3-4 different locations just incase the first one dosen't work out. Too often people come to the lake without a plan and just end up fishing around the comunity spots.
Tony Mariotti
When fishing GIANT perch on Lake Winnie, leave the 30+ft. and look at 1 ft of water under 3 ft. of ice! Did I just post this? :-)
DLD24
+1 on the drilling a lot of holes...Last year my brother was laughing at me for drilling a ton of holes...But who was laughing when I started pulling up 12" crappies and nice wallys....THIS GUY

anderson_dc
Before dropping your jig down to the fish, check it in the hole to make sure that it is balanced and working properly.
Glockwinger
Always ask if you should bring your auger extension on the LOW forum before making a trip Ok, that made me laugh out loud first thing in the morning! Love it. My tip: be sure you have your ice scoop in a bucket or your portable before heading out on early ice. Sucks to forget it. Also, I like to keep a plastic coffee can with a snap on lid in my Otter for when I have to go number one instead of peeing outside in a huddle of houses. pushbutton
Don't fish memories. Things like water/ice clarity and temperatures will affect weed growth and hatches, which will correspond to the bait fish locations, and hence the gamefish. Don't get me wrong, I am as guilty as the next, and it makes sense to hit up locations that you found them in the past, but after coming up short after a few times....its time to find new memories
