Some people (me) don't care for the glossy translucent effect of thickening with cornstarch in something like stew or chicken gravy.   Personal preference.

Nothing special. Just potatoes, onion, celery, carrots, 3 lbs of stew meat and a packet of beef stew seasoning mix.
