BLACKJACK
Found this thread and slogged thru it, I can't believe no one has brought up Mac and Cheese!!! We always have a few boxes in the cupboard and will whip it up for an evening meal if the frig is empty and nothing else is planned. If I'm feeling adventurous I'll add a can of tuna and a can of peas - you get your salad and your protein with it!! Thirty years after college and I still like Ramens, either as an evening snack or noontime lunch. Most times I just eat the noodles and cut back on the seasoning packs. After reading this thread, I need to get back to 'enhancing' them, either with some cut up chicken, pork, and vegies. Not a big fan of the boxed pizzas anymore, not when I can get a Papa Murphy's at a decent price, take it home and eat it hot out of the oven. We do have a few other 'boxes' in the cupboard that I'll use as side dishes, Rice a Roni, stuffing mixes, scalloped potatoes. Quick and easy to make with the main meat. LindellProStaf
Yup Velveeta made the best mac and cheese and also was the best in scrambled eggs. That American was great too. That was more of a treat type change of pace for us. Now my sister inlaw gags when I tell her about Velveeta. lol My ex inlaws got that commodity cheese after they retired. They would give some to us. I really liked that stuff too. Reminded me of that American that Rebs posted. RebelSS
leechlake
because of this thread I bought a pack of instant mashed potatoes last week. Wife made them and my son looked at her and said something like "what is that?" I did a little sell job on him and how easy they were and that they are good. They were good frankly. I'm not making them ever time but we throw baked potatoes in the microwave all the time in a pinch and these flakes work just fine for a changeup. lovebigbluegills

Reminded me of that American that Rebs posted. When I was in college my roommates and I would go get that commodity cheese, five pound boxes each, sometimes we had 20-30 pounds of cheese in the freezer. We got really creative making grilled cheese, anything and everything went on them, onions, ham, tomatoes, you name it. Then I married a cheesehead from Wisconsin, she grew up across the street from a cheese factory. Needless to say we always have lots of cheese in the frig!!! Especially if you use a little more butter than it calls for, and add a spoonful or two of minced garlic!!!
leechlake
btw- I used to work for a company and some of the guys bought and sold cheese. Most wouldn't let their little kids eat anything but the pasteurized cheese products. A lot of mumbo jumbo goes on in "fixing" bad cheese because it's so expensive to sell for feed grade when that happens.

Dotch
I used to really like that boxed Kraft chicken egg noodle stuff but haven't seen it in a while locally. Came complete with a packet of dehydrated something or other that was supposed to be chicken related.

KEN W
The only time I use instant mashed potatoes is with a hot turkey, pork, hamb, or beef sand. A lot of gravy does wonders. Love Brewpub pizza's. So much cheese you can't see the meat underneath. Stove Top is a good base. Add sausage, onions, and celery. With a touch of sage. jbell1981
Another vote for Zataran's dirty rice but with Italian sausage instead of hamburger. Love Ramen noodles. Crushed with garlic powder. Add Spam (yes, I said spam) and onions to a bowl and it's awesome! Dotch
