Hoey
Seems they have a good sized marketing budget. They were at the St Paul Ice Show and running ads during just about every fishing show on Saturday and Sunday mornings. It looks like it works great on perch, sunfish, and crappie. I wonder about larger width skins such as walleye.
leechlake
for those that have used it is there a way to "stop" to leave a patch of skin on if you're transporting? Cool gizmo.
bobberineyes
Pretty cool, makes you wonder if it actually gets all the rib bones in one shot, if it didn't that would be my only complaint bouncing back and forth with the knife. leech~~
They were up at Cabalas in Rogers along with Dave Genz and everyone else in the world last weekend doing a demo. Pretty cool but my thought the whole time was who do they have supplying all the filets for a whole day demo? bASS_BLASTER
Neat but what happens if you accidentally get your fingers in it?
Naturboy
I thought it was pretty neat until I saw the $150.00 price tag. I do remember a old time skinner that had a hand crank like a can opener. I don't remember using it but my dad had one.

Bryce
Battery powered Townsend fish skinner. Have seen it in action outside the demo and got to test drive it. Small learning curve but slick. Just like the original that is readily available online, will clean your fish much more efficiently than a fillet knife. Will leave a skin patch if you need and rib bones are gone. Still need to get the fillet off to start so still need to have fillet knife.
bobberineyes
+1 eyeguy, they could have Mr almighty there himself instead of Genz and it wouldn't make me buy one..
leech~~
Well, they used to have fish in tanks. . Ha, they still do and I was going to ask they guys if they got to net some out if they ran short for their Demo! never did check the price. not for me at 150... lol resort guy might like it Yeah to pricy for me too. To me if you put in the time to cut off a filet how much more time does it take to slide the knife down it to get the skin and ribs out? sunniewally
leechlake
I'm an electric knife guy and I can do them so fast that thing would slow down the process even if it was free. Can't tell the last time we had a bone. Good tool and good technique solves a lof of problems. I, like many of us, consider myself a gold medal fish cleaner. leech~~
IMG_1777.MOV I had me one of them there fancy battery op jobs once, but they don't work no good on partly frozen fish and just wack off big chunks on the edges. so I sold it at a garage sale! leechlake
I bet I catch 80% plus of my walleyes in July/August so thankfully I don't have to deal with the frozen numbers. If you don't use an electric knife I believe you are a lefty...or you can claim you're leaving a smaller carbon footprint than me. I could see the electric shattering meat though. fishadb
Looks like it would be slower than using a knife, and one more fishy thing that needs to be washed off. $150 gets you a pretty darn nice rod. sunniewally
Moon Lake Refuge
Haven't used one but I saw a ton of them returned and sold as open box items at our big store here in woodbury last year. That doesn't seem like a good sign.
hnd
150 isn't so bad. my cutco was 100 bucks. i retired the rapala after i had to start sharpening it every session. cutco last 3 years then i send it back and they sharpen it for free. deadduk
I have been using one for 8 months and it is really handy. It may take a few fish to get the knack of it but once you do I think that you will like it. It really works well for removing the rib bones on any fish! zip308
We have been using one since they came out last year and it works great. I dont bother when there are only a few to clean but otherwise we use it. Gets the skin and rib bones, no problem plus you can have a kid do it - nothing that can hurt you on the device, it does not have a sharp edge. Have one guy use an electric knife and slab them out while the other guy skins and removes the rib bones. Takes us less than half the time including clean-up Chad perchking
fasternu
My wife got me one for Father's Day last year. I have mainly used it on crappies and walleyes, and love it. I use an electric knife to cut the fillet off the fish, then use the Skinz-it for the rib bones and then the skin. I bet I am close to 60-90 seconds per fish (after you get the hang of it). You control the speed, so yes, you can leave a patch of skin on the fillet for travel. And yes, the fillets are just as bone free as if I was using a regular knife! To clean it, you just flip a lever, the roller comes out for cleaning, and slides back in. It is safe enough that my five year old can use it without me worrying about her getting anything pinched in it. perchking
slurpie
Once you get the hang of the skins it it can make cleaning fish way faster.
