B-man how did you prove it was yours? Makes me want to identify my equipment in some way but what is good enough for the cops.....

I installed an hour meter on the side panel and a brass barb on the gas cap.

The Detective assigned to my case asked how sure I was it was mine...... I told him that it was 110% without the slightest doubt mine wink You could show me 5,000 different pictures of Honda EU2000i's and I could pick mine out.

I have a great update for you guys smile

With a little detective work of my own I led the Police to recover my stolen generator!

I've been watching the C -list since it was stolen, and 12 days ago I posted a wanted ad for a Honda 2000.

I've gotten nearly a dozen replies, none of which were mine, but then on Tuesday a guy sends me pictures of mine!! $750 cash wink

I called the police and we set up a sting operation to buy it from the crook smile

As it turns out, the guy who sent me the pics had bought it from the thief a day after it was stolen.....

So needless to say, the rest of my stuff is still missing, but the police are working on tracking down the guy. I hope they catch him and nail him with a felony wink

Good! I hope they catch the guy!!!

Let me tell you a little story about theft and why crime pays.

A very close friend of mine had a little over $700 stolen from her last Jan (around New Years). Video surveillance clearly showed him doing it. Think she got the money back?

Here is what happened. A police report was filed, the guy was charged with theft. A few months went by, his court case was moved out, another month passed. He finally faced the judge and plead guilty. Then had to wait a bit more for sentencing. So a grand total of 8 months after the money was stolen he was sentenced to pay restitution in the amount he stole. Oh its not done. He was granted to make the restitution in installment payments at the amount of $50/month. So if he makes his regularly scheduled payments it will take in total 22 months from the day he stole the money to repay the $700. Think about that. It makes me want to puke.

While I agree that is kind of a joke it might have been the only way for her to recoup any money. Believe it or not theft is not usually a very lucrative career.

The option might have been to have him repay in installments or not repay at all.

Hopefully the money bought him a little vacation to the local prison.

The older gentlemen is P-oed, cause he is now out that money and he is hoping just as much as I they catch him. He did buy it with the intention of reselling it for a small profit, and is now wayyyy in the hole.......

A few years ago I saw an ad for a new Lowrance GPS that was cheapish, I thought "hey I could buy that, then resell it for a quick small profit" I emailed the guy and he claimed he had won it in a contest. I ended up not buying it. A few months later, different model come up for sale cheap, I email the person, same guy, same story..... yeah right. I'm 99% sure those units were stolen, luckily I hadn't bought the first one and obviously didn't buy the 2nd one.

Great news B-Man!!!

This is a good reminder to log all of the serial numbers for your property.

On a rainy day or if you are bored one afternoon pick up a notepad and start working your way around the house and garage logging all the the serial numbers. Most everything has one these days. Heck even St. Croix poles and a serial number for warranty registration purposes. Like another poster said above, it's not a bad idea to scribe a name or Operation ID number into the equipment in a inconspicuous spot on the item.

The chances of ever seeing your stolen property again goes up if you do these two things.

Once again, good job B-Man and I hope you get your other items back. Your hard work paid off!

Something still does not make sense to me. Why would he buy it & then want to resell it right away??? Are you sure this is not the guy & that is a cover story?

Reminds me of the summer I was building my new house in the country, while still living in my old house. I was using a Honda generator at the time and left it in the framed out garage on friday night when I left for the day. Saturday morning I came back to work on the house and the generator is gone!.....[PoorWordUsage]!....I reported the generator stolen. I worked on the house without power on sunday and returned on monday morning.....There is the generator in the garage?....I talked to a Sheriffs deputy , and he said that there was a big kids party nearby and he thought they borrowed and then returned the generator......Welll!..... smile

Was the gas tank at least full?

Not only that, but the older gentleman even changed the oil for me grin

So technically, he was out the $600 he paid for it + $3.75 in fuel + $9.25 in Mobil One Synthetic Oil ....

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
