Mornings or Evenings?

For you guys that have been out this week, when have you seen the most activity? Are you seeing more movement at sun up, or have you seen more later in the afternoon? Have not been out since Sunday and just was curious if this cold weather has gotten them into a more "late season" pattern where they are moving more late afternoons?

Thoughts?

for years and including this one I've seen more deer between 1-3pm or in the am than my favorite time to hunt which is that last hour before sundown. We don't have too much pressure in our area so I'd think the deer we see aren't normally being pushed by another hunter in any fashion.

We hunt in woods, no fields or clear cuts in our area which may explain why we don't see them in the evening.

The reason I like the evening hunts is it seems magical to me AND you never have to decide when to go in. About 15 minutes after sundown is the limit to what you can see any reasonable distance when you're deep in the woods.

It seems a little odd to me that when Bow hunting I see a good amount of Deer in the evening. But, when rifle hunting I would say that I have taken 90% of my Deer in the mornings.

Every deer we saw was seen in the morning (8 total). All the deer we know of being taken by hunters around us were all taken in the morning.

Besides the deer we saw moving around after dark along the roads the latest we saw deer was 11am. We were in the woods from 6am until roughly 5pm.

Over the weekend my son and I saw more deer in the mornings than in the evenings but possibly only because we finished up Sunday morning. I have a friend using my lease now since he wasn't seeing anything on his and he is seeing deer pretty much only in the evenings. (5 on Monday night and 7 more on Tuesday night) I assume he might be seeing the same group of 3 or 4 yearlings/fawns hitting the neighbors winter wheat field in the evening but at least they are up and moving around during shooting light.

Well there you go plant your butt in the woods from sunrise to the end of legal shooting time and you can't go wrong. My late father used to say that " Every hour you sit and don't see a deer is a hour closer to the time you will" You only got down unless you shot a deer, those are some long days, but we also shoot deer at some strange times as well..

I love the evenings and I see more deer as I do not like the cold temps in the am this time of the year. I have 4 degrees with a 6mph wind right now and will b going out shortly. Not sure how many hours I will make it, hopefully a deer will come by right away. Last weekend rifle hunting I did very well in the am hours with the gun. This weekend the bow. If you have a good morning spot, they can b as good as any food source spot at night. Just a lot cooler in the early am hours.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
