Century Link Internet?

I use Century Link. Can't really recommend them, but can't complain about them either. Around our house we just use the Internet to browse the web and run Netflix off the TV in the living room. Century Link does just fine for that and the price is reasonable. But like all of these services, your rate will eventually go up, and once you call and complain they'll offer you a lower rate again.

We dropped Dish and just went to an antenna for broadcast TV and Netflix for movies/TV series. Only thing I really miss is live sports (except Vikings). HBO is supposedly going to offer it's programming next year, can't wait for that.

CenturyLink sucks for, but I have only one other option and that is through the cable/telephone company (small time) and its SPENDY!

So, CenturyLink it is. We connect via Wifi for all the devices so it doesnt matter if we had gigabit per second speeds still limited to the router.

Its decent, been dependable enough I guess. I have noticed my phone having massive issues downloading/uploading when connected to Wifi, but if I switch if off its blazing fast.

We used to have the most basic internet from Comcast and switched to CenturyLink and I like it better as it is faster. With Comcast we could not stream anything, even UTube without it reloading every minute or so. Granted that was with their cheapest internet but the CenturyLink price is comparable. We have had no trouble with it and it has done what it is supposed to.

I have it and just got another year for $24.99 at 40MB/5MB. There is no commitment so the folks just told me to call next October and get another good deal.

For me here in Rochester they offer a screaming high speed of, wait for it, 1.5Mbits/sec.

Hey man they must be putting me on.

I think that AOL over a telephone modem gets more than 1.5MBs these days! grin

Apparently my house is connected to their network by a long piece of wet string. On the other hand they were busy stringing fiber along Co 24 north of Cook. So I might end up with better internet available at the cabin than at my house.

That's entirely possible. Sounds like a company who's name I don't recall is going to run a high speed fiber line essentially through our town but there is no plan to tie us in because we're already "adequately served" according to whomever makes those decisions.

Granted, I'm not lacking for speed, but it's the principle of competition. I have essentially two choices now. Charter, which is currently 30Mbps but is supposed to jump to 60Mbps sometime in December, or CenturyLink who says 10Mbps.

Del - can you put up a wifi hotspot so that I get something over in Black Bay? grin just kidding. I like telling my guests to turn off their phones!

Seriously, I was just kidding. Years ago I was elated every time I drove over the divide, north of Virginia. My cell phone would lose its signal and that was it for the weekend/week - no work calls/emails. With the new cell tower in the middle of the lake, I now get a slight signal if I climb the hill behind my place and stand on top of a big rock, sometimes enough to send a text. My boss once came to my place and realized there was no way he could call me if I was up here....I don't want that to change!

I use Century Link for home phone and internet. I have 40MB down, 5MB up, pay for a static IP and have a total of something like $75/month after taxes and fees. I was paying close to that for Comcast with a slower speed and no home phone. The bill going up $2 per month until it got so bad you would call and complain and it would start all over again the next month.

There are still a few spots we go to that have no signal unless you use a booster and that only works with Verizon(still safe on AT%T for now), but that is probably going to change in the not too distant future. I know a lot of people want to be perpetually connected, but there are times when I just want to be left alone, especially from work. Nothing like sitting around a campfire enjoying some true peace and quiet and the phone goes off and it's work calling. I know shut it off, but they give us a stipend of $30 per month to leave it on and it is not optional. And sadly, I have enough conscience that I can't just go ahead and shut it off.

I hear ya 100% there, I'd love to shut off my phone up at the cabin, but what if someone needs you or something goes down...my conscience gets the best of me every time.

I get mine up there by a point to point link from Access MN out of Virginia. You are welcome to use mine anytime it is alive. Just stop in. I'll give you the pw. You can fish muskies in the bay while downloading. smile
