Trilene XL problems

I have been using Trilene XL forever. This year I am having a problem with it fraying or delaminating. I spool this on a Shimano Sedona reel. I bought a 1000 yard spool of 6 lb and it happened to me twice then bought a 100yd spool of 4 lb and it also happened. I have never seen this happen. Is this my reel or is Trilene line getting bad?

I suspect a bad eyelet. Inspect all the eyelets on your rod for broken or chipped eyes. I had a rod do this to me as well and an insert had fallen out of the eyelet so it was rubbing on the metal. Replaced the rod and never had a problem since while still using the same line from the spool.

I spooled up some fresh 8lb xl a couple weeks back, fished it a half dozen days with no prob.

Roller bearing or guides as mentioned above may be the issue.

Possible you lucked into a couple of bad batches maybe.

I think this is the obvious answer. I had a similar situation and couldn't figure it out to save my life. Eventually I inspected the eyelets, and my tip-eyelet was cracked. Replaced it, and the problem was gone.

Fellas, I truly do not mean to be a smart asp here, but can we all begin using the proper terminology for the various parts of a rod?

Eyelets= line guide; the top eyelet is called a tip-top. At the rear of a rod grip is a butt cap. Just ahead of the fore-grip (the one in front of the reel seat) is usually a hosel and it may have a small nylon or rubber or plastic "washer" like affair.

Sorry....but the eyelets thing has driven me nuts for decades......I just can't take it any more......ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Now I know how some teachers feel.

If you boys are ever under minor surgery you'd better hope the doctor says suture and not neuter.

Certain things just grate on a guy like finger nails on a blackboard and the "eyelets" thing is just one of them for me.

Remember.....it was in an effort to educate so when you are discussing rods you sound more intelligent and knowledgeable.

How does one "sound" more intelligent when there is no audio on this forum? If a tree falls in the forest............... Oh, never mind.

Please. Do the country a favor and do NOT vote Tuesday

You can take a little ribbing can't you? I am poking as much fun at my own misuse of the word as I am at you for being a nomenclature zealot. If eyelet everyone who teased me get under my skin, I wouldn't be very happy.

And BTW, I will vote indeed. For constitutional conservative candidates wherever they appear on my ballot.
