Why are people convinced that “something has to be figured out”. Please provide facts to show that any of these AIS have ruined a single lake.

Bureaucracy at its finest. Task Force, Czars, Stickers, Wash Stations, Pamphlets, Fees, Roadside Checks

Cmon Guys….. You really believe we are saving anything?

Nope

More Draconian AIS laws is all I see.

Did anyone notice the story in yesterdays paper about the 50% DROP in pheasant huntes under 50?

Why do I bring this up in this forum you ask? More and more restrictions make it harder and harder for the AVERAGE guy/gal to do outdoor "sporting" events nowadays. There are simply more things to do that dont' requrie testing/licensing/harassment etc.. It's much more relaxing and enjoyable going for a bike ride down a nice new path that YOU ALL PAID for!!

Whats funny is you then here the DNR complain that no one wants to participate in these hunting/fishing/boating seasons.

You're right...it is a stepping stone. Would you rather have them close down all asscesses until they figure somehting out? Would you rather pay an annual fee (for fun lets say $200/boat) so the state can buy washing stations at all landing? "what if" every boater did what they are supposed too? I bet there would be a HUGE reduction in infested waters the following year. And that is what this campaign is aiming to do with very little cost and time to us boat/trailer users.

CC, I think the point you are missing is that all of these ideas you float will not contain nature. You can't contain nature. All these ideas do is create more red tape and restrict use for the public with no benefit.

Seems to coincide with the drop in the number of birds (50% over the last 10yrs)? There is nothing restricting anyone including the average Joe from going out and shooting some pheasants. Plenty of public land available to anyone who is willing to go out and walk it. What are these restrictions you speak of? The only one I can think of is a hunters safety course that has been around for years?

Here's the restriction... Everyone wants to shot their limit of birds, everyone wants to shot a record buck, everyone wants to catch a limit of fish...but nobody wants to have to work for it.

Again who is restricting me or anyone else from shotting shooting my limit of birds? And what does this have to do with AIS?

shot, shoot, shooting..... laugh

The only reason I'm remotely interested in researching how other states are oppressing sportsmen and flushing taxpayer dollars is so I have an indication what our own nanny-state might do to us in the future.

Government is a hammer. To a hammer, everything looks like a nail. In order to justify hundred-million-dollar budgets, bureaucracies latch onto every issue they can and call it a crisis. The DNRs of every state are no different.

Nothing else explains the level of egregious intrusion into our lives, and the millions of dollars being wasted year after year after year on something that has been a demonstrably object failure in every regard.

We are watching the crushing of the outdoor sporting lifestyle by a bureaucracy seeking to justify its own existence. Many of our grandchildren won't even bother to pass on the legacy because oppression of the state sucks the life and enjoyment out of our very heritage.

RunDave-my post was a joke...I agree, no one IS restricting you.

And I don't have spell check on this computer nor do I proof read what I writing on a outdoor forum...I guess I didn't think people were proof reading my post or cared about spelling errors.

I'm not convinced that zebra mussels are really all that bad. Yes, initially they can be prolific and create quite a bit of trouble but like any ecosystem there eventually develops a balance. They are prolific at first because they have a huge food supply and no or very few predators and very low competition but that can only last for a while. Eventually they will balance out and develop a cycle like any other species. In the mean time they do a great job of clearing up the lakes they inhabit, which may actually be a good thing.

I wonder if they have been in a local lake long enough to reach that balance point yet.
