OnAFly
My Maple Leafs so so but way better than past seasons. Well, it could always be worse, you could be an Oilers fan!
bbfenatic
Story of the year so far has to be my 2nd fav NYI, another big win last night and only one point out of the lead in the east with 32 points...this team is for real!Wild are getting pushed around too much, playing a perimeter game and no "big shot". I think kemps will be OK.
RuKiddingMe
Brodin is back on the ice tonight - this can only help us.... I think
knoppers
The FLA situation is terrible. They had ~8k people there. The Wild's AHL affiliate had ~9k at a game last night. Yeah, more people went to a minor league hockey game than a Florida NHL game.My understanding was that they gave away a ton of tickets in the past to try and generate interest, but all they ended up accomplishing was devaluing the product. Now they are ending the ticket give-aways and charging. So, people are now being charged for something they got for free in the past so three isn't a whole lot of incentive to go. They should move to a better market. There's just not enough interest down there, maybe apart from transplants from other hockey markets. Hey, another Toronto team would rake in cash like no other. Imagine being the lucky guy that gets to move a crumby team like FLA to a market like that. You'd instantly make a couple hundred million dollars. I bet half of those 8k were wild fans, living in that area for the winter.seems even the baseball teams down there have bad attendance. BuckSutherland
About time they quit all the sissy perimeter play and go inside and do some scoring.
bbfenatic
Gutty win last night after almost letting it slip away, drove to the net and got better shots in the slot area. Kemps is having problems with the high shots like Backstrom has an issue with as well so hopefully that gets taken care of real fast. OnAFly
Pretty rare Suter eff up cost us the game last night. Perimeter play on most of our PPs is one of the reasons we don't score PP goals either.
O.T.C.
Is Cliff Ronning still in shape ?
OnAFly
Suter may have the mumps. Bill Murray's end of the world speech from Ghost Busters comes to mind right now.
CaptainMusky
This whole mumps things is ridiculous. I believe the entire team and traveling writers/media have been vaccinated.
OnAFly
Our PP is just ridiculous. No one moves more than 5ft. We just pass around and don't force the other team to move so they are always in position. We set our down low guys on the goal line...which is useless. Seriously, how can you deflect a puck or score a goal from there. Do we really think that a guy there is going to be an effective passer? There's just no threat at all. We might as well be 4v4. CaptainMusky
Huge win last night against the east. Hopefully Suter won't be out long.
OnAFly
Definitely a big win, but still if we don't bring this PP to something respectable we could miss the playoffs. Our PP has cost us games so far and in the Central division, we can't afford to give away points. I honestly believe that if our PP continues on like this, there's a good chance we don't make the playoffs.
CaptainMusky
I honestly believe that if our PP continues on like this, there's a good chance we don't make the playoffs. I agree. We got one goal on the PP last night though right? The Pominville one?At any rate, with a 5 minute major in there you HAVE to make them pay at least once.Playoff time is killer without good special teams. They score at a better clip even strength than on the PP. That is messed up.
OnAFly
Nope. That was about 30s after the PP, I believe.
OnAFly
Parise on being booed:“It doesn’t help. They’re frustrated, and I understand that. And they have a right to be frustrated. We’re frustrated, and then when we get booed, we get more frustrated, and then it snowballs. But sometimes we feel like booing ourselves, too, it’s that bad, so I can’t disagree with them.”I kind of thought this might be the case. Fans want to boo to show their frustration. Players hear the booing and get more frustrated. It becomes a cycle. Something has to change.
CaptainMusky
Yeah, that doesnt surprise me one bit. The majority of the fans that are booing are probably ones who dont even understand hockey. I know we have some of the most hockey savvy fans around, but hockey is one of the few sports where you can really feed off the energy in the building. Its unique in the respect that a team can change the number of players on the ice based on a penalty or pulling your goalie. The dynamics are complicated and the energy can certainly affect the play on the ice both good and bad.I am frustrated as is everyone, but I wouldnt boo them for crying out loud. Hester
Tough hit on Perry, I could see why people might not like that hit. It used to be a lot more common. guys just don't fear coming down the boards anymore. I don't feel bad for Perry one bit, he had one of the biggest cheap shots I have ever seen on Zucker 2 years ago. OnAFly
Keumper is a backup quality goalie at this point. He stops most of the shots he should, but doesn't make big saves to win games. Put Backstrom in.
CaptainMusky
When the ducks scored the first quick one I told my wife they are going to get at least 4 on kuemper. I didn't see that comeback in my crystal ball thought. They struggled mightily for half the game but then it was like someone pulled the plug from the dike. 2 PPGs what a nice surprise. Even if they were flukey sometimes that's all it takes to get going.Perfect example of why PP is so important. Without those two goals it would have been a blowout. The game and intensity changed.
OnAFly
Definitely. That PP was much, much better than the MTL game. They moved more and didn't automatically fall into their standard perimeter structure. By moving more leading up to the setup, they moved the defense more and opened up lanes to shoot through. Even if they wouldn't have scored, they were generating chances which shifts momentum. As far as the Parise goal, it was a little flukey, but hey sometimes you get flukey bounces that turn into goals when you shoot from close range. Overall, it was a good game on the O side...not so much on the D and G.
bobberineyes
Took the family to the blue's game a week ago and I just couldn't get over how much bigger they were than us. Seems like the majority of the power teams in the nhl are not stacked with smaller players like the wild, especially on D. Watching Reaves run around and hit us at will with nobody on our bench to do anything about it got old. I agree, Backs should get the nod for a few, can't hurt. These games are getting so important...wild need to win or that hole just gets deeper and deeper. Suter in so that might help if he gets back to his old self...and Vanek talked Yeo into moving him up to 1st line and promises results...Yeo's betting on Vanek to produce Either way I win tonight!
