Why? Everyone got their wish, and now they can complain about harvest numbers being even lower this year. [/quote

I'm sure there will be some of that, but I have no time for anybody who whines about not being able to take more than one deer this year. Hunters share the fault with our DNR for the low numbers much of the State is currently dealing with.

Said it before, and I'll say it again...just because the DNR will sell you an antlerless tag it doesn't mean you have to buy it and fill it.

Pass a doe...let the herd grow cool

I agree. People usually complain about all the rules and regulations but sportsmen have proven that we aren't capable of regulating ourselves. If hunters think the DNR missed the mark for a particular zone and they think there aren't enough deer they are free to take it upon themselves to reduce their own harvest.

I would say the majority sportsman are not capable or regulating themselves. The reality of it is that there is a huge population of deer hunters that don't follow deer populations as close as most do on here. There are a large number of hunters that think about deer hunting for a week and move on with their year.

Absolutely correct...and IMHO that's where organizations like MDHA, MBI, MDDI, MWA and others need to step up. Its time for our State deer groups to start providing some education/information that our DNR does not. Its "okay" for deer groups to advocate for deer and deer hunters even when our DNR does not...kind of their purpose IMHO. Deer groups can maintain a working relationship with the MN DNR even when they don't always agree...we don't have to kiss DNR fanny just to "keep a seat at the table".

Well I hope the Moose like having less deer around the arrowhead. In my hunting group everyone will be okay with Bucks only at the cabin. My hunting group will still be as picky on which bucks they shoot. However I think it will hurt some of the local hotels and businesses, because of the low deer numbers.

I like what I'm seeing, let it continue till the herd grows. We were talking today when they bring back managed maybe do a lotto for bonus tags. What does everyone think, good idea or bad? I would also like to see a statewide APR, but that's just my opinion.

Does anyone know for sure when the 2014 regs will be out? The OP said 7/22/14 but that did not happen. Where did that date come from?

that was on the DNR HSOforum. now it just says "Information for the 2014 season will be available soon. Firearms season opens Saturday, Nov. 8."

So no, no one really knows when the regs will actually be out. However, here's a link to download what WAS on the DNR server before being removed: RegLink

Up until sometime yesterday, the DNR page on big game regs said that the regs would be available on 7/22/14.

I shot Leslie McInenly an email asking what the deal is...I'd encourage others to do so as well.

Minnesota fish and game laws, must be science based for healthy and sustainable populations. Not for APR,s or experimental slots just to have larger deer and fish.

If only we were so lucky. There's very little hard science that is used for managing our deer. Soft science like sociology and psychology are far more "important" to our DNR than actual biology.

I'm sure this will get updated so not sure how long the link will work for but anyone see anything wrong with the numbers in the key? Talk about trying to confuse people, you'd think someone would proofread the main page image?

I especially love: "No Limit Antlerless - 1 Deer Limit" smile

Just curious, but what's the rush to be able to see the regs right now? I don't bow hunt, so maybe the answer is obvious to those that do. But archery season doesn't even open for nearly two months.

Is there a reason people need to see the regs right now? Or is it just that the season on complaining about the DNR never closes?

Can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I wanted to see them was to make sure the DNR actually listened to the deer hunters of this state.

As for complaining about the DNR...that's just how it goes. If you're a public employee, better develop a thick skin. The level of DNR complaining here isn't even close to what the DNR folks in WI get...and that's too bad IMHO. When the public gets involved and demands accountability and increased expectations for how THEIR money is spent I'd call that a good thing. Our DNR needs to experience an external audit like WI's DNR has to go through every few years....perhaps then they'd become more responsive and communicative with those of us who pay their salaries.

The version I saw on the HSOforum has the corrections made to the key. I guess they felt the pressure of everyone clamoring for the new regs so they rushed it out without proofing it first.

somebody clearly made a mistake in the image posted to the HSOforum. the PDF map has the limits correct.

In general, I'm happy with the new regs. Didn't think 227 in north metro would go to one deer. But overall, happy the majority of deer will catch a much needed break this year.

Now I have to decide what I'm going to shoot or pass on. Lots of decisions to make. One and done this year; but I guess there is the party hunting option.

Some of us like to make plans to hunt another state if MN lets us down. One deer in the freezer doesn't go very far. No problem with deer numbers on property I hunt. Have to dodge them on the way to work also in Central MN. Guess I better look at chasing elk again......

Just out of curiosity...what's an elk hunt gonna run you? I've never done it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
