DonBo
My Dad has a new smoker and is loving it. He doesn't have internet access to glean all the great info here. My question is, are there any good books with recipes and tips for a smoker newbee that would make a good Fathers Day gift?
leechlake
this would do the trick:Mastering the Craft of Smoking Food: Warren R. Anderson ..or you could find some specific articles off of the internet that fit what he likes making and put it together in a binder for him, more of a personal touch he may or may not like. If you were a kid he'd like it for sure.
delcecchi
you could go to Amazon and enter meat smoking cookbook in the search box. See if any of the 53 results look good. Check the reviews. (and ignore the smoothie recipes, not sure how they get in there)

Farley
What kind of stuff is he smoking? If he's into sausage then "Great Sausage Recipes and Meat Curing" by Rytek Kutas. Pretty much the sausage bible.Or if you go with Leechlakes idea, Smokingmeatforum dot com has helped me get some great results off my smoker. McGurk
Anything by Steve Raichlen.... My first thought, too, but he is more into the whole cooking with fire than just smoking (not that there's anything wrong with that ). Another couple of sites are bbq brethren and amazing ribs. Not much for books, but searching those sites may be able to point you towards something that will work for him. I have used those sites a lot. Another wealth of knowledge is a poster here who goes by thirdeye. Maybe PM him and see if he has any recommendations. Some quick hits off a search: Steven Raichlen's BBQ Bible Steven Raichlen’s "BBQ USA Steven Rachlen’s "How To Grill" "Ribs Ribs Outrageous Ribs" - Steven Raichlen "Sauces Rubs & Marinades" - Steven Raichlen Weber's Big Book of Grilling by Jamie Purviance and Sandra S McRae Weber's Charcoal Grilling by Jamie Purviance Weber's "Real Grilling" by Jamie Purviance Dr. BBQ's Big-Time Barbecue Cookbook by Ray Lampe Dr. BBQ’s Big-Time Barbeque Road Trip! by Ray Lampe Dr. BBQ’s “Barbeque All Year Long!” Cookbook by Ray Lampe The NFL Gameday Cookbook by Ray “Dr BBQ” Lampe Ribs, Chops, Steaks and Wings by Ray Lampe and Leigh Beisch Holy Smoke: The Big Book of North Carolina Barbecue by John Shelton Reed; Dale Volberg Reed; Will McKinney Legends of Texas BBQ by Rob Walsh Peace, Love, and Barbeque by Mike Mills and Amy Mills Tunnicliffe Serious Barbecue by Adam Perry Lang Paul Kirk's "Championship BBQ" by Paul Kirk "Paul Kirk's Championship Barbecue Sauces" Smoke & Spice: Cooking With Wood, the Real Way to Barbeque by Cheryl Alters Jamison and Bill Jamison Mastering the Craft of Smoking Food by Warren R. Getanet
I'm a smoking novice. I have an electric masterbuilt. There is a book called "Dadgum That's Good" by John McLemore that has some easy to make recipes such as smoked Mac & Cheese. It's mainly a recipe book and not all of the recipes are for smoking. But it's simple and got me started on the right foot. It looks like he has also come out with another book, "Dadgum That's Good, Too."I'd recommend it if you just want to get him some simple recipes and ideas. Not if you're looking a book on the strategy/philosophy/science of smoking meat.
kingr
My Mother-in-law gave me a Recipe/Educational book by Weber. It is very useful. I has all sorts of smoking and grilling recipes along with sauces and rubs to just name a few things.
SkunkedAgain
The 'amazing ribs' HSOforum has lots of great advice. I'd definitely print off some of the articles for him to read. It's good common sense stuff. There's also a smoking meat forum that has lots of great advice. You'll find Reinhard1 posting over there.
