slip bobbers (stops)

I've been using these little black looking things from JR's, they work pretty nice but can be a pain to get on your line sometimes but I like them more then the green strings.

If I do use the green strings I pull them tight then clip off a bunch of the left over string so it isn't so bulky.

I've been hearing some good reviews about another kind similar to the ones I'm talking about from JR's but haven't used them yet and I can't remember the name off hand.

I think Dtro talked about them earlier somewhere.

I use the strings on my ice reel with the Ice Buster bobber on the deadstick, hasn't been a problem. I use a Med and Med Light rods.

On my summer rods I did use something that looked like a figure 8, but I thought it frayed my line some, so I stopped using them.

For ice fishing, I prefer the Arnold Speed Stop or Speed Weaver from K&E Stopper Lures. They stay in place and will not absorb water like the other bobber stops on the market. These small plastic stops are big enough to stop an Ice Buster without using a bead and will not get hung up on your guides or on the reel spool.

I've been meaning to make a post about these. They are called Smart Stop Bobber stops.

So yeah anyways, they work ALMOST as good as advertised. They clip on easily right on to the line, you do not need to retie (simply attach inline), they are big enough to not need a bead, and they reel up through the guides perfect and then FAIL when they get to your roller bearing. frown They are too big to make the corner...

I would not no recommend them for small spinning ice reels. I bet they work great on med or large size reels though.

Dtro, I have a bunch of them I got as samples. I gave about 40 packs away to friends and when asked almost everyone is undecided if they like them and went back to strings. They are a lump on the line and line does get stopped by them sometimes. Great concept though. I would say I lean a little more towards liking them than not liking them. There is something neat about the way they snap on. Fact is-strings are simple and work great. This is the first time I've seen them since I got mine a couple years ago, I didn't think they ever made production. Also, they come in two sizes, I can't remember the colors but the little ones are pretty small.

I saw these at the show when DTRO showed them to me. I had good luck with the smaller ones but the bigger ones get caught up in the roller bearing as DTRO said. Great idea but I would like if they were a tad softer to get through that bearing. The bobers they had work well

I tie my own with old dacron line. Another option for a deadstick is a fixed bobber, and handline the fish in. If you will be using it in your hand, with a flasher, a slip setup might be better. I cant count the times I've had fish come in above the bait, and take it when I reeled up the them.
