Cell phones - What are you packin'?

Thinking it was scratch resistant. My screen on the s5 is showing light scratches already. I Keep it in my pocket all the time with keys lighter etc.I'm thinking I got to get the clear film protector for that before it gets worse.

The port door has been fun for me too.

I set my phone lock with a password. It kept going on in my pocket and annoying me with drippy drop sounds.

Another issue I am having is that when I want to text someone and pull up our conversations the phone calls the person with out me pressing call.It happened to me about 5 times.

I like the phone mostly for all the photo features and battery life of the phone.

For me personally, I’ve never used a screen protector. To me it lessens my experience. You lose some resolution and the protectors scratch pretty easily so more times than not, if you have a protector on, you find yourself looking at a less than ideal display, have an annoying corner peeling off, or even worse, get dirt or moisture trapped underneath. The glass they use on these things are very durable and are really designed to not have to use a protector. I will say that I’ve never kept a phone longer than 2 years and have had some minor scratching on past phones, but none of them were ever visible with the display on. I could pick them out with the display off with the right angle of light hitting it, but those scratches never affected the screen viewing when the display was on. Purely cosmetic.

I don’t like to use any sort of case either, but the way the camera protrudes on this S5, I decided to get a case so that I can lay it down without scratching the camera glass (which from what I understand is not made of the same durable gorilla glass). I picked up the Spigen Neo Hybrid case.

I had a LifeProof Naked on my S4. As soon as I can get one for my S5, I'll have one.

Thin, lightweight and no screen protector. On the S4 it was still 100% waterproof, it had a silicone bead around the inside which sealed it off.

Not sure what they would do with the S5, since it's already waterproof.

The camera was a concern of mine as well coming from the RAZR, but weighing the options it was worth the risk to get a phone I liked. I haven't messed with the camera much yet. . Hopefully I will next week. Bang bang!

I've had my S5 for about a month now, old phone was a RAZR M. Love the S5, camera is so much better than the M it's no comparison at all. Battery life rocks. The only thing I miss about the old RAZR at times is the size, but even that isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I put the S5 in a Spigen Slim Armor case and it's thinner than the case I had on my M. I didn't care for some of Samsung's placement of things on screen so I installed Nova Launcher Prime on it, now everything is where it should be as far as interface goes.

My wife got the HTC One M8 and there are some features I prefer on that vs. the S5, front facing speakers and HTC's interface being at the top of that list. S5 won out for me because of the SD card slot, removable battery, and waterproof feature. If I was buying today I'd have to take a good look at the Droid Turbo though.

One other note, I've found Amazon to be the cheapest place to buy Verizon phones BY FAR. For the 2 phones we bought Amazon was $270 cheaper than Verizon at the time we placed our order. Cheaper than Costco by a fair amount also.

Not sure if this will show much. I uploaded and posted this via my phone so I haven't seen what it looks like on a PC in full resolution.

Just a quick pic. No HDR. Exposure and focus on auto. If I need better I'll use a point and shoot.

I desperately need to replace my Droid Razr. If I wait any longer the only way I will be able to use it is with it plugged in. Dang battery is about shot.

The razr maxx I had was spectacular for battery life, but annoying in that it wasn't easily user-replaceable. You can replace the razr battery -- it's just sort of a pain. Google "motorola droid razr battery replacement" and click the top link from ifixit for a great picture-filled step-by-step.

The S5 I have now has a user-replaceable battery, so in THEORY I'd be happy with battery performance longer and have one less reason to upgrade, and maybe I could get 3 years out of my phone. But theory never matches reality. In reality I'll probably be clamoring for a new phone in 2 years for some other features anyway.

Ducks

Taken from same viewpoint but with camera zoomed in (4x):

Ducks (4x)

As you can probably guess, zooming a digital camera results in straight garbage so the results were as expected.

You'll have to click on "download original" after selecting those links if you want the full picture (large files, 9MB).

In February it will be 3 years for me with this phone. LONG overdue. Just really havent been overly wowed by what Ive seen. The S5 and M8 are nice phones, but between the two I couldnt decide so I just held off.

Certainly wont be an iPhone. That much I can GUARANTEE.

A little problem I ran into with my Samsung Galaxy 5 recently.

The little port door for the charger plug broke off a week ago.I talked to the best buy geek squad ppl and they told me they would replace the phone for no extra $$$ under my insurance I been on.

Glad I payed the extra $9.99 a month for these kind of mishaps.
