Cell phones - What are you packin'?

Recommended Posts

Just got back from the store. I did look very hard at the HTC. It is a very nice phone. I did end up going with the s5 however, more so because I didn't feel like 'learning' a new phone. The s5 is comparable to my s3.

Now, I have to wait until April 16th as they are out of stock on them already.

FYI, Costco has the S5 for 99 bucks if you want a verizon version. Beats the VZW price unless you're doing the bogo at VZW or something.

I used to be the same, a Driod man from the original Driod to Driod X, to Driod X2 to Razr to Razr Maxx.

Went to a Samsung S4 last summer, I'll never have another Motorola phone. Look into it when you're ready for a new Maxx.

Oh, and I use an S4 for everything.

Had 2 lines available for upgrade. Went the buy one get one free for $199 online for the S5.

I have 4 other S4's on the Edge plan, so don't care that these two phones will be tied up for a 2 year contract.

Was out plowing snow for 30 hours yesterday / last night. Fell asleep trying to setup the new S5.

Will have a review by the end of the weekend. One thing, and I had this issue with my first S4, is my signal seems much worse than my S4. My first S4 had a horrible signal as well. Might have to try it for the weekend, and exchange it if it doesn't seem better.

So you finally gave up the unlimted data?

Hows that working?

We did.

I use between 8-10 GB per month. My wife would use 2.

My mom, MIL and dad all had flip phones.

We bought my 12 year old a phone, he's doing more stuff after school, need communication more. He had his own data for 2 GB per month.

We switched to the More Everything after talking with the manager at the new Verizon store in Maplewood.

If you go to a more everything plan, with 10 GB or more data per month, you get a $25 credit per smart phone. All of our S4's are $25 per month on The Edge program. Essentially we are getting the phones for free, kinda.

The two S5's I bought at the $199 BOGO. I will be into each of them for $100.

The Edge program, you are essentially leasing the phone, unless you run out the entire $600 (2 years) where if you purchase, you own them but you are tied in for the full two years.

We have 4 phones on the Edge, so in 6 months I can start to use those upgrades if anything comes out.

We are on a 14 GB per month plan, 6 S4/S5's, unlimited talk, unlimited text.

The 12 year old downloaded a data limiter on his phone, he's now allowed 4 GB per month. Wife, dad, mom and MIL all use about 1 GB per month total. I still run my 8-10.

You get a notice when you hit 50%, 75% and 90% of your allowed data. At any time you can buy another 2 GB of data for $10.

I have Verizon's data widget on the second screen of my phone so I get a real time update.

About a month ago I purchased the LG Flex. Giant screen and great phone. It's fast, has a great picture and does more than anyone needs. Can get them for just over $100 off Amazon. Closer to $200 if you go to the stores.

I will say the Samsung S5 has better real world screen quality resolution then my Samsung S4.

We did a side by side equal comparison test the other day and I was pretty impressed with the difference.

My S4 is great and suits me fine but if a little better picture quality makes a difference to you go for it... smile

After having my S5, the battery life is about 20-25% better than the S4.

I've run about 6 GB of data, plus WIFI this month, so it doesn't just sit dark in my pocket.

I charge it over night, that's it.

My S4, I'd have to find a charger about 5-6 pm.

I was in the store looking at the s5 today. The rep says its water resistant which would be good for me I guess. They want $200 for the upgrade.I can either buy a cheap phone for a few $ and buy a case Thats water proof/resistant for almost a hundred bucks or get the s5 and have all that tech stuff that makes it up to date.I'm going in tommorrow to look again.

I'm looking for more options for the camera effects on the phone and water resistant with decent battery life.I'm on my third battery on my HTC vivid.

Last weekend my 12 year old and I were taking selfie videos doing belly flops into the pool.

It's completely water resistant. You should have seen the looks of people's faces when my kid dropped his S5 in the hot tub, then started texting again.

On my S4 I had a LifeProof case and used the phone for video the hole time in the water parks at Wisconsin Dells over spring break.

You can always look around for deals rather than going into verizon to get it. If you want two phones, then the S5 for $199 at verizon store is a great prie because you can do buy one get one free (effectively $107 each after tax). However, if you only need 1 phone you should go to amazon and get it for $168 with no tax and free shipping. Costco is $170 plus tax. They were $99 plus tax a week or two ago.

It's seriously THAT water resistant?! That's pretty cool! Care to post any?

Hopefully they do the same with the Note. I would upgrade mine in a second!

I picked up an LG G2 today. It looks like it will do everything I need it to do and then some. It's a huge improvement from what I had before.

My wife has a G2. It's an all right phone. However, the way the glass goes right up to the edge makes it a bit susceptible to breakage. Out of the 5 years of owning smartphones, this is the first one my wife has shattered a screen on, and she did it twice in 3 weeks. Once was a fall from around 4 feet onto pavement, and once was a fall from about 2.5 feet onto a tile floor. Battery on it is not the greatest but a big upgrade from her old phone. Rumors have the G3 coming out in the next month.

The G3 is rumored to have a 5.5" screen. That's a small tablet, not a phone. SMH.

I see talk about a Galaxy S5 Prime that may be out in a few months. QHD display.

Samsung has been working on a new device codenamed Project KQ, which is expected to be the higher-end version of the Galaxy S5. The device could debut the new octa-core Exynos 5430 processor that sports an integrated Intel LTE modem, clock speeds of up to 2.1 GHz on the powerful Cortex-A15 cores and 1.5GHz on the low-power Cortex-A7 cores, and the Mali T6XXX GPU rated at 600MHz. It could, as rumors have always suggested, have a metallic build as well, to address one of the most criticized things about Samsung’s flagship devices.

Bought the Samsung 5 today.Took some pics and very happy with all the options for editing.Took some time getting the hang of where everything is located in the different menu's.My HTC vivid seemed to be easier to get around but with a few custom changes I should be all set with my new Samsung 5

Now you tell me! grin

I do have an otterbox on it so hopefully that helps keep any damage to a minimum.

So this video pretty much sold me.

Verizon has the phone for $99 now (after rebate)

Pretty sure I'm gonna pick one up:

IP67 rating has to be done by an accredited lab per EN60529 clauses 13 and 14. There's no reason to doubt 30 minutes at 1 meter (in all likelihood it can last a lot longer: after 30 minutes no water can be found in the device at all). More than that depth it is hard to say: IPX8 rating is manufacturer specified, it isn't used often.

The washing machine test is actually a lot easier to pass than the pool test (washing machine would probably be closer to an IPX6 rating). Basically anything IP67 rated would be able to do what you see in the video.
