Ryan84*
Out of all of my ice fishing equipment, my bait pucks are one of my most functional and important pieces I have. I use mine for waxies and minnow heads. Must have for all ice fisherman!I hope everyone has a safe and fun season.
perchking
Maybe not my most functional, that would be my rod and reel but I get what you are saying they are great and I love mine also. NO more waxies or wigglers crawling around in my pockets:)
broman
I have one full of Euros, and the other filled with minnows. When I don't use it for minnows, it becomes a small tackle holder.
Ryan84*
Do you put full minnows in them or just heads? Definitely a multi-function tool.
broman
Full minnows. If they're still live when I open the puck and I need an alive one then I use it, otherwise, I mostly bring them with because I pinch the heads off and use them, and then the tail when I run out of heads. I keep the puck inside my coat so that the minnows and Euros don't freeze.
20lbSloughShark
What wax worms do you buy that don't come in a container?
LakeDocktor
What wax worms do you buy that don't come in a container? I'm assuming that you don't own a bait puck? Either that or you are trying to stir up this topic like many of the others you are involved in.....
JeremyCampbell
So you liderly put minnows with water in the puck? How many minnows can you put inside comfortably?
CaptainMusky
I out minnows in there with very little water. Usually put a half dozen in there.
hydro
How do you keep water in a bait puck? Every one that I have seen has a pinhole in the lid, molded in at the factory. I sealed mine up and put a foam gasket on the lid to seal it up so it does not leak in my pocket.
CaptainMusky
I have a clam one given out at the ice show last year and no leaks for me.
amateurfishing
I ended up buying a 2 pack this year, got sick & tired of my waxies getting blown all over the lake last year in that little plastic 1 oz cup, hope the bait puck has more weight to it and more wind resistant.......and yes a little known trick I have seen on videos is guys putting live minnows in them with a little bit of water and they can stay alive quite a while, one person even demonstrated it as a great "hole hopping" tool so you don't have to carry the full minnow bucket with you until you find a "hot" hole
BassFisherman
These are GREAT pieces of equipment. I use them every time i go out and i use both waxies and I throw live minnows in there with water. If im out hole hopping all i need is my rod and vexilar its perfect. Never any problems with mine leaking.
Jared_P
Waxy's in one and minnows in the other for this guy to... JP
Brad B
What wax worms do you buy that don't come in a container? the pucks are nice when you buy the big 500 count tub of waxies. I always do this at the start of the season. I buy the big tub then will put about 50 in a puck and leave the rest home and reload the puck after I get back home. I will bring more if I know I will need them but normally I have gotten by with only bringing 50 waxies at a time.
brook100
X2 for live minnows in the bait puck! They stay alive for a long time even with a very small amount of water in the puck. I have both the clam and strikemaster pucks. No holes in either.
usmc0411
I never heard of or seen these "bait pucks" until I moved to Minnesota a few years ago, and quickly realized an empty can of chew will serve the same purpose.
20lbSloughShark
I wish I could use 500 wax worms in a season. I've carried minnows around in a chew tin.
Hoyt4
They are great use for waxies and Euro and minnows. Buy the 500 count waxies to start the season go through a couple of those and just keep reloading the bait pucks as the seasons go on. Ryan84*
Great info guys, I will try putting a few live minnows in one this year!
Hardwater_Fan
I never heard of or seen these "bait pucks" until I moved to Minnesota a few years ago, and quickly realized an empty can of chew will serve the same purpose. A nice benefit to the bait pucks is that they are usually insulated though, so the contents don't freeze quite as quickly. A chew can works in a "pinch" though - no pun intended! OnAFly
Yeah, but then you just keep catching the same fish over and over again Anyone ever see that King Of The Hill episode?
20lbSloughShark
Where do you guys buy 500 count? It seems the 25's last a week or two at best, is there anything special to make them last longer? Do they come in euro colors? I don't have the bait puck, but a bait puck of some kind is a great tool.
broman
Vados and Princes.
Agronomist_at_IA
Just had my shipment of bait arrive today from vados. Ordered 500 wax worms and 1000 spikes. I got the spikes in mixed colors. Three large bait pucks to keep the 500 wax worms in. One large bait puck to keep the 1000 spikes in. Keep the large bait pucks in the fridge and basement. Then I transfer them to little bait pucks and a lindy grub getter to use the bait when I head out. Seems to work well.
