Time to trade AP

He can't block worth a lick and he is pretty much useless in the passing game and that is a liability for a team who runs the west coast offense. If we had a RB that could consistently pick up a blitz and run an effective screen route. The offense was more dynamic when we had Chester Taylor who lacked the raw running ability but didn't need to get pulled on 3rd down and gave defenses something to think about on third down.

If you have a expensive combine that you have used hard for 4-5 years with a couple fixable breakdowns along the way, sometimes the best thing to do is trade him off. That used combine is still worth a lot of money. Trade for a new one before he really breaks down and completely falls apart leaving you with a HUGE expense to fill to your lineup. This team is going nowhere for 3 or 4 years with the big holes to fill on defense. The Redskins are beating the Bears using a running back that I've never heard of.

So...... Even though It makes sense to trade him... Who in the league will give up multiple drafts AND take on his salary? I agree a Hershel type trade would be smart, the league is even smarter now... The time to trade was in this last off season.... His value would've never been higher.

Cough cough...as much as it pains me to say this cough cough...but big Dave is right. Peterson is someone we "built" our team around but his best years are behind him. He may have 3 good yrs left and there is no way we can fix everything in a yr or two to really get everything out of him. RBs decline is faster than their rise. His end is very near.

The BUS?? No way. When the Steelers won it all in 2005-2006 Duece Staley was the starting RB. Bus was back up. That team won it all cause the QB didn't turn the ball over and their defense could get pressure on the opposing QB. RBs and superbowls don't go together in the modern NFL.

What a guy like Peterson does is sells ticks to rubes who gobble him up at every chance they get.

Well, you're forgetting about the 2000 Ravens that were built around Jamal Lewis. But to your point, the league is mostly about QBs.

I also agree that Peterson wouldn't garner more than a 1st round pick. Trent Richardson is a stud to be with many years of service ahead. Trading for Peterson right now is like buying stock at its peak. You might get a little more upside but you are staring at crash.

You only would get a 1st round pick because the additional benefit you are getting is cap relief.

My only point that I'll make against trading Peterson is that the Vikings aren't struggling with the salary cap, and once Jared Allen goes it's all about the draft and finding a QB. You aren't going to buy one on the free agent market so why would you need Peterson's cap space? He's one of the few guys selling tickets for the team.
