Did/is Vexilar discontinuing the FL-22

Depending on how you look at it "yes". It's not a performance issue rather than a price point aspect. They are not making the FL-22 because of the launch of the FLX-28. I learned to absolutely love my FL-22 but see the benefits to the FLX-28. Both are extremely effective tools for the ice fishermen but the FLX-28 is the future.

Makes me happy I got the FL-22 when I did! cool

If you have a FL-22 consider yourself lucky. It is an amazing unit and will continually be used on my boat as well as on the Ice!

The FL 22HD is replaced this year by the FLX28. the FLX28 is basically a 22 with added feature minus the 60 foot setting. it only goes to 50 feet in manual mode (the 10 foot scale like the 22 had) and to 300 feet in the auto mode. the auto mode starts at 10 feet then goes up in 5 foot increments until 30 feet then it is 10 foot increments from 30 to 60 feet then goes to 20 foot increments from 60 to 120 feet then goes to 40 foot increments from 120 to 240 feet and the final increment is 60 foot when in water 240 to 300 feet deep. the other big thing is the 5 color option of the display. color setting #1 is the traditional three vexilar colors, setting #2 turns off the green and leaves only yellow and red, setting 3 gives you the 3 colors plus white (which is the color for a return stronger then a red one), setting 4 adds blue to the colors from setting 3 (blue would be the strongest return picked up by the unit),& setting 5 gives you the white, red, blue colors (this is the setting for color blind people)

I've got a showdown, FL-20 with the double vision set up and DTD cam, and now ordered an FLX-28. Gonna put the flx28 in the double vision and put the fl20 back on the ultra pack. My buddy bought the 22 last year and it is a great unit. Just surprised vex quit it when they still have the fl-18 and fl8. When the 12 and 20 are basically the same has those two, but improved. I really kinda wanted an FL22, but hope the FLX-28 is better.

check with reed's they might have some carryover from last season. I think Cabelas in Rogers, MN has some carry overs from last year. Vexilar had some reconditioned ones on their site for sale at a good price.

Well if they plan on price point being the same, then it totally makes sense to drop the 22. Its a no brainer if both were sitting there at the same price which one I'd buy.

So if anyone else wants a collectors item and want to feel lucky they have one, I'd gladly trade my 22 for a 28. PM me if interested. grin

My 22 was bought first year and only has a few running hours mostly due to the fact that the tri beam ducer was faulty out of the box. On the trip to LOW luckily brought with the 18 and 20 as well. Third guy down had to watch bobbers the whole trip...

Really like the 20 but this new 28 makes me wonder if I should sell the 22 and get the 28. Keep in mind the 22 was purchased going on 3 years and it's got no more than 8 hours of use.

If anybody is looking for a 22 they could try the vex store???

The FLX-28 will be a welcome addition for all Vexilar users. I know they state that it is more of an "Ice" fishing unit but that is because of the Automatic feature. If you want to use it on your boat you could always run it on the Manual mode to select your depth settings.

If you can find a 22 then go for it. I love mine!

That being said I am still very excited to use the FLX-28 this year!

I checked out the flx28 yesterday. Somethings were cool with it, some things I am not sure I like. I hate how it only gives you depth digitally and not on the dial. I would love to try it out on the water, but not sure I am sold enough to buy one.

That's a good point DRH, I never thought about not having numbers displayed around the dial till you just mentioned it. I think there are ticks though, but still some math involved with suspended fish smile

Yes, no big deal, but the more I think about it, isn't that kind of the whole point of a digital readout?

I didn't notice the numbers gone but I'm glad, less clutter.

I usually don't look at depth till someone asks "how deep is it". When I look at the flasher I look for fish and what kind of bottom hardness, don't care about depth. I just wish some store would get one in stock, I want to check it in person.

The FLX-28 rocked today!!! Only problem was I ha a hard time seeing it because Cole ( my 12 year old son) was camping out in front of it! Lol. It is a very crisp display and as always the Vexilar didn't lie. Cole saw the depth, the fish and caught them. We found the Crappies and Gills in 32' of water suspended. I'll post a full report in the Ice Team forum under the "What's Working Now" thread.

Good fishing,
