starting sleds after siting all summer?

In the four years I have had them (2 Polaris and one Yammie) I had problems only when trying to start them with old gas. Now I just add some fresh non-oxy before trying to start, and they pop right over after just a few extra pulls. I try to run them down in the spring, so there is not much old gas come the next year.

Not sure if that is best, but it has worked for me.

I've had problems with my Arctic Cat for years. I know this doesn't help you this year but my mechanic/neighbor told me to start my sled once a month during the Summer. It's in the garage at the cabin so it's easily accessible.

I start it every few weeks to a month and that has solved my problems.

Put some fresh gas in the tank and then take your air compressor and put your hand over the gas tank filler and blow air in the tank with your air nozzle under your hand to push fuel into the fuel pump/carbs. Thats how we always did it when setting up new sleds that didnt have any fuel in the system, works well. Make sure you make a good seal around the air nozzle and tank filler with your hand. Maybe some new plugs if you fogged the engine also.

Ill try the air trick tomorrow and let you know how it works. Ive tried pulling on these with full choke and it just wont suck the gas up. So I have always pulled the plugs and gave each cylinder a splash of gas to get it to run enough to suck the gas up the lines. But this also takes several attempts. Im also not a big fan of starting fluid.

All that but, you do still have that Cat right? wink

Ah my cats might be a little hard starting for the first time but they have never left me stranded. Got side tracked and spent my time today putting new bearings on the trailer. Salt etc. had taken a toll on the hubs and studs so I went the easy route and just bought new hubs. Maybe check/clean the carbs on the cats tomorrow or this weekend and fire them up.

This isn't just a Cat "problem". We used to have a Yamaha that was hard to start after sitting all summer. I start all of mine once a month now - problem solved.

Ended up putting a shot of gas in each cylinder and a few shots of starting fluid in one carb to keep it running long enough to get the fuel pulled through the lines. Wasn't quite running right so off came the carbs and found one main jet plugged. Cleaned and blew out everything else and put it back together and runs like a watch. Long as I had the tools out I took the carb off the other machine and cleaned that to and fired it up.

Tried the air thing but the tanks were full of gas and couldn't get a good seal with my hand to build up any pressure in the tank. Maybe if the tanks were lower on gas it might have worked better.
