NO AMMO! IM Gunna CRY!

Recommended Posts

So Im the guy who does not care about the media dont care to keep up with the kardashians, you get my point. I didnt realize those shootings and this whole Obama craze would leave me in stores to find the $20 remington boxes of ammo no one likes, all the chepo junk, and the overpriced junk ammunition. All I see left on shelves are well plenty of 17HMR, turkey and bird loads, pistol and 22lr shotshell loads, and deer slugs. I own a 50ae, 22lr, .308, and a 12ga I dont need any 12's but the rest........ cry

I asked and the worker said since the whole jabble blah blah blah ppl are buying ammunition like crazy plus he said all the manufactures have a "contract" with the military which says a few billion bullets are to be first handed to the military before the public. So there a step ahead of us, now all I was suggested was to go on gunbroker and hope to get some there "but it wont be cheap" plus they wont even be manufactured 50ae just reloads

am I lost with the current world and whats been going on? When will I be able to find most importantly 50ae? My Desert Eagle is my deer gun my dad has the .308 handgun we need ammunition!

Im scared that I will walk the earth to never be able to touch another box of 50ae ever again all I have are my last 15 hornady 50ae rounds

I did end up going to the Gun show today and it was about as busy as I have every seen. If you couldn't find any kind of Ammo you were looking for something was wrong! I will tell you one thing I was and have been looking for a long time which has become just about non-existent! Out of the hundreds of sellers and tables full of guns I could still not locate one Ruger 44 carbine! I love those fun little brush guns and haven't seen one in years? frown

In February it seemed like it was getting better. I hit the Scheels in the Dakotas as i'm on the road. Every one of them had .40, 45 ACP, .380, etc.

Now, I stopped at the Scheels in Sioux Falls on my way through, and they are cleaned out again. The only bulk pistol ammo they have is 45 ACP.

Maybe the manufacturers are just producing for Big Sis right now:

To provide some perspective, experts estimate that at the peak of the Iraq war American troops were firing around 5.5 million rounds per month. At that rate, DHS is armed now for a 24-year Iraq war.

Read the story for yourself:

I saw this coming back in the late spring/early summer of 2008. I starting stocking up then with 19.00 bricks of primers, 19-22 dollar powders, 23 dollar bullets, brass, 9 to 14 dollar bricks of .22lr and 22 mag. As time passed and I used up supplies I immediately replaced them to my desired level of inventory. I even bought a .17 because that ammo was cheap cheap. To say I've got an accumulated inventory of 15,000 rounds would be accurate but not to include the potential to reload 100's more.

Now I'm waiting with bated breath for the release of the ammo and guns for the highly taunted .17 super mag. Got my name at the top of the waiting list in two local stores.

My advise wwould be to ride out the panic and do not buy at the inflated prices the gougers that cleaned off the shelves are gonna try to get.

Picks, It's gonna be a hoot!!!!! Go heasd and goggle it. It's a necked down 27 (to .17) winchester brass that is used in construction guns. 20 grain pill is suppose to hit 3K while the 25 grainer is rated at 2600. THE fastest rimfire ever. Nosler is making the rounds. Savage is producing the gun. I talked to a gal at Savage but all she could tell me is that they should be out in April. A guy from the Bismark ND, area told me some place already had the ammo on the shelf.

I would think the craziness should subside a bit after the gun ban bill was dropped in the Senate. I hope all the people that bought up all the inventory in stores with the intent of reselling it at a huge profit loses money.

Paul, I looked it up over lunch, a hoot? Absolutey, but I fear what it would do to the tree rats I shoot with my 17hmr.......probably take the head clean off I suppose. As I said to a buddy of mine, I am dure the poachers are chopping at the bit to get their hands on one of these

The craze might subside, but the ammo manufactures are still at a 1-2 year back order fulfillment. That's what is going to take forever to get things back to keeping up.

I realize the main topic may be strayin but, just this evenin I was talking to a friend that retired from Black Hills Ammo a few years ago. They make that stuff in my back yard. Seems they called him and wanted him to come back for "awhile". I asked if they were hiring when he kinda hinted at "Oooops, I shouldn;t have said anything" so I dropped it.

Unlikely. They'll just sit on it until the next round of ban talk inevitably surfaces. At least that's what I'd do had I done such a thing.

This sucks, I had to buy some trap loads, and I used to get a bulk discount, now not only has the price gone up, but no discount. I usually buy them in 1000 count for $160, now they want $259. That extra $100 is gunna hurt. I will usually go through 2000-3000 a month, from May-August. Thats an extra grand this summer just for shells. May have to cut back I guess, less shooting with the kids.

That was my goal this past fall/winter is to pick up a reloader, and start reloading, but the cost of them has sky rocketed as well. It is more of a hobby for me, and just bringing a few kids out and shooting some clay pigeons. While I am sure the kids will be bummed, they are kids, and will find something else to occupy their minds this summer. Most of them are now 15-17, so they already have other things occupying their little minds.

Look for some used reload equipment. I see them all the time at Garage sales up north or swapmeets in the summer. Also Gun shows and that list thing are good places to find them. It is kind of fun working up loads. I use to reload 44Mag for my Red Hawk until I sold the gun and reloader to one of my buddies.

I have been check the sporting good stores in the st cloud area and dang you guys looking for ammo are in some trouble. Hand gun ammo shelf was just about gone with the exception of some off calibers. Only good thing was they had some shotgun shells for turkey hunting, but I need 2 3/4 inch chells so my nephew can use my remington sportsman 58. He is pumped up I think he will be hunting B season. I bought a box of pheasant loads. I will pattern the gun this weekend with them. Also there was NO 22 bullets at all.

I have all the aZmmo I will need for the next 10 years. I have been buying ammo since a year ago.

Many smaller town hardware stores still have the ammo that seems to be short in the larger stores or the stores in the larger city's.

Small town America, ammo can still be purchased but I am sure they will soon also run low.

Next time you are driving through a smaller town and see a local hardware store, stop in and my guess is you may be suprised what they have on thier shelves.

Everyone goes to the big box stores and forgets about the smaller local guy.

I know my local hardware store had alot of ammo and I purchased about a $100 work 2 months ago. I was in there the other day and he also was getting low but still had 22 and pistol ammo. That day I picked up 100 rounds of .40 pistol ammo.

I did not need to stockpile ammo but I figured I may as well get it while it was there to get. Stuff is not getting any cheaper.

Maybe by this fall a person will see the larger stores with more ammo after the Gov contract is filled.

Reloading your own will be an issue also. Few buddies have told me components are getting scarce.

Or maybe there will be people scrambling just to find ammo to load their deer rifles with..... This is outta control.

I have my dad checking the small town America stores in the Fergus/Alex areas when he is out and about.... Talked to him a few weeks back, and he didnt believe me when I asked him to keep his eyes out for me... well, now he has seen it and cant believe it either.

Maybe this fall we will have to start a "who needs Ammo" trade thread! wink

I've been checking with all of my clients that retail ammo on a regular basis for the availablility of .22 LR ammo...Today, one of the retailers told me he had gotten a memo, it stated that irregardless of the price he was quoted for his ammo order...they would not be honoring the price points offered at the show...My client would have the option of opting out since they broke the contract...but, in any event, it indicates "higher" ammo prices than the distributers offered to retailers at this years show...So, expect higher prices when and if ammo becomes more readily available...A month ago a local retailer had .22 LR ammo on sale for just under $2 for 50 rounds and at that time he had a fairly good supply...today he has none of the standard loads and very little of the ely and other high end target loads at $6.50 and up for 50 rounds...On a brighter note...I have not noticed any shortage of common HP big game rifle caliber ammo or upland game shotshells on the shelves in the local area...
