Cris Carter’s son to sign with Vikings

The Vikings rolled the dice on a member of the Carter family with a shaky reputation in 1990 and it paid off with a Hall of Fame wide receiver.

They’re trying a version of the same gamble again this year. Cris Carter told Mark Craig of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that his son Duron, who is also a wide receiver, will sign with the team as an undrafted free agent.

Whoever green-lighted this should be terminated. Immediately.

Last I checked the vikings were a privately owned team and they could spend their money how they see fit. I'm quite sure this is low risk high reward for the vikes. If it works great if not send him packing. Its not like he's going to bring down the team or take a spot from someone else since he was undrafted.

He's obviously had plenty of time to practice being he cut class so much. Who knows maybe he has a legit set of hands on him and can route run like pappy used to. Anyway you look at it its not a bad move, you don't get offers from Alabama and Ohio State unless you have talent. He's definitely worth a look.

Uh oh, better start the firings off in San Fran too. They just signed Montana's boy to a rookie minicamp deal.

Oh the humanity!

Never seen someone get upset about an undrafted free agent signing before.

I don't get that either. Who would get upset about an undrafted free agent getting a try out. It's not like we spent a high draft pick on him.

Actually I was glad they signed him. From what I hear, he's not real fast, but adequate speed, he's tall, runs good routes and has great hands. It would be great to let this kid develop on the practice squad.

"The team that drafts Duron Carter will get the most lazy, whiny & non-work ethic player the nfl has ever seen. I played w/him. Horrible person & will be a complete cancer to any team on the board."

Looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Whoever thinks it's a good idea to bring any relation of Chris Cancer to the team is just begging for more of the same, i.e. mediocrity.

I don't care if it doesn't cost a plug nickel to bring him in for tryouts, the team doesn't need any ties to Chris Carter and his pathetic attitude. In just the past few years they've finally flushed the rest of that out of the system and they shouldn't be running back towards it.

Tall, runs good routes, and has good hands? Gee whiz, there are only hundreds of players that fit those "stringent" guidelines. crazy

And Rick says that I don't care. smile

And if he shows any of that in camp he's cut. What's your beef?

Cris Carter Career: GP:234 REC:1101 YRDS:13,899 AVG:12.6 TD:130

"Hey you want to look at his kid an undrafted free agent? It will cost you little."

Unless this kid was a murderer or drug problem, or dog fight coordinator than he is worth a look. That's all we're giving him is a look. Seems pretty harmless, only good can come about it, he is an undrafted free agent, his ego cant be too big.

Who really cares? Nothing to lose here, he's trying out for the practice squad. Not like we signed him to a big deal with guaranteed money. He probably is a whiney baby just like the other 90% of the other WR's in the league lol.

Now's his chance to prove everyone wrong. He has a chance to play for his old mans team and has another shot to prove himself. Here's his last chance either step up or drop off.

If he's as good as his dad in a few yrs you'll see LMIT sporting his jersey.

LMITOUT- Are you saying that Chris Carter was a whiny mediocre WR? Your comments have almost lost complete credibility (almost there before this comment)if you think CC was a mediocre WR. He had some of the best hands the NFL has ever seen and it is a shame he had to wait so long to get accepted into the HOF.

Who cares other than Duron Carter and his family about him signing with the Vikes. If he produces great if not oh well easy to let him go and wash our hands of him.

You got the whiny part right.

He doesn't deserve to be in the HOF.

Carter was a bit whiny but thats because he only cared about winning, so when Warren Moon or somebody else didn't make plays, Carter would flip-out.

As far as being in the hall of fame or not.. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, even people who have no credibility whatsoever. I guess thats why we vote and record stats...

Carter is easily twice as good of a receiver as any of the four packer HOF wide-outs who REALLY shouldn't be in the HOF.

Come at me LMIT BRO!!!

Isn't the HOF all about production? Did CC not have a HOF career? 3rd all time receptions, 2nd in rec TDs, 8th in rec yards. Yeah he's not a HOFer because he got upset a few times like all athletes do. LMIT, are you a fan of anything or anybody?

Like the voting members of the HOF who finally voted him in just to get him out of the way?

You can't possibly be serious. Without a doubt Carter had the best hands in NFL history. I'm sure LIMIT knows this but is enjoying to jerk everyone's chain.

If it was such a sure thing then why did it take so long for him to get in? According to you guys (Vikings fans) he should have been a sure fire thing in his first year of eligibility.

Guess not.

Cris Cancer is a tool and he got what he deserved, which leads us back to the original topic of why you would want to bring in his kid when it appears he's just as big of a tool as his old man. Will he make the roster, probably not, but why even go down that road when you just shipped your last headache to Seattle.

The thing is how big of a headache will an undrafted free agent be? I think that means he has to prove something because his whole career is on the line and if you think the old man hasn't reminded him that many times I bet you're wrong. Now if he becomes this great receiver like pappy was then I would be more than happy to put up with a little drama, aren't most WRs drama queens anyways? LMIT, please name some players you like, can you even think of any? Current or recently retired please.

To see if there is actually something/somebody you approve of. Everything you post is negative, pessimistic, antagonistic, and I would like to know what it takes to win your approval. Or are you just a grouchy old man?

Thing about foolish dumb teenagers and young adults is sometimes in their early 20's they get their heads out and grow up. That's certainly a chance worth taking. If I had your attitude with my kids I could have locked a child or two into states of permanent juvenile narcissim instead of watching them blossom into responsible adults.

And like I pointed out above, just as you pointed out too, the headaches can be cut or shipped out. If I didn't know better, I'd suspect you are a Vikings receivers coach looking to avoid a difficult task.
