fisherman-andy
There is rumor that Vexilar will be unveiling a new digital ice flasher @ icast this Summer? Likely to go on sale next ice season?
dan z
This would rock! I just hope it isn't $1000 like the other top notch digital flasher
Eric_Kruger
ive been hearing about this unit for two years...
DLD24
The way vex prices there flashers it will probably be 1000 with no camera
FisH_SLaYer24
I think I'll stick with my trusty FL-20 mechanical flasher for now! It reads bottom perfectly, can tell me where a fish is at in the water column, and it can locate my bait. That's the only tool I need that will help me put more fish on the ice
otterman91105
I'm sure it will be a big price jump from the flashers they have now.
hamms-scooter
Been hearing this for 2 yrs?? It better be a sweet unit then. I know the mechanical flashers are all we really need to catch fish but it sure is fun to get new toys. Comes down to reliability and durability, They have proven they can do both, Will be interesting...
brian6715
I have had my LX-7 for a season now, and I can tell you that I will never go back to a mechanical flasher. The silence alone is invaluable, especially with how noisy those Vex's get! Of course one has to be able to justify it with how much it costs, but I was able to get my for nearly free with the use of my credit card points

I got my lx7 for going in the boat also. Your right it is nice to have the quiet. Will be cool to see the competition respond to the 7. Take the extra cash and gas up your truck!
Lusid
I will buy the digital flasher because I like to buy stuff, if it comes out that is.
MaxGoldman
I'm savin' up this summer for a new flasher and was thinking of going all out on an LX-9 but an LX-7 would be sweet too, now that I know this I may have some more thinking to do! Can't wait to see what they have in store.
JohnMickish
I have heard a pretty solid rumor that Lowrance will be entering the ice fishing sonar world in a real serious way. Not sure if they will be partnering up with someone or entering on their own.

Not sure if they will be partnering up with someone or entering on their own. Hmmm... I have a feeling if they are partnering up it might just be with Vexilar. Will see if the rumors are true comes this Summer. But with Vexilar customers being anal on how their flashers work I wont be surprise to see the complaints stack up now that you have programmable software driving the hardware needing field test and feedback. And we all know that is done by releasing it to the mass to test the software/hardware for issues. Being field tested by a few individuals is not going to be enough... DTro
But with Vexilar customers being anal on how their flashers work I wont be surprise to see the complaints stack up Hasn't happened one bit with the current digital option. LOL
cichlid_baby
Maybe this time Vexilar will actually finally introduce a real "all new" revolutionary flasher unit instead of adding a pen light or cup holder and calling it the latest and greatest Super Duper Mega Ultra combo pack.http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=NpdBMMPfdBo&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DNpdBMMPfdBo
magicstix
I don't really care either way if they go digital or not. If they do I just hope they put out a product that doesn't need updates to fix glitches that shouldn't have been there in the first place. I'm just saying this in general, not pointing fingers at any specifc company. When I jumped into the digital world, the CS reply and sales pitch was it can be fixed with software, great. Fix it. I'm still not fixed up yet. When I pay "X" amount of dollars, I expect it to work like it should. JMHO. Sorry I'll get of my soap box. pikerliker
OK I guess I'll ask the stupid question. What does a digital flasher do differently than a mechanical one?
JohnMickish
No moving parts. Fast. Quiet. Energy efficient. Different screen modes. Upgradeable and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head.
Lusid
It's going to be somewhat lighter but probably not noticeable. The noise level and power consumption should drop too like mentioned above.
DTro
Actually the power consumption on the Marcum digital units is quite a bit higher than the vex mechanical flashers.
Hawg
Pikerliker, thats not a dumb question at all. What lots of people don't know is that it also enhances things, in most cases causing more power useage not less. The early graphs made you think you were fishing in a stocked pond with all the fish they drew on your screen. It's only my opinion but when we get into all these flasher war debates, a lot of people mistake enhancement for sensitivity. It can make your 1/32 oz jig to look like a 3# walleye, and the perch above it look like a 40# musky.
