I think it was a great start to the series. Our church is doing veiwing parties for each night it airs and on the Sundays in churh will be discusing what is about to be aired that evening,to help give perspective on what is about to be veiwed. Our Pastor was invited to a special veiwing of the series along with some other prominent church figures to help with feedback for each other.

Looks like a really good production with great effects! They missed out on some major details but you couldn't do everything in ten hours anyway I guess.

I miss Charlton Heston grin

I know they have to make it a little more exciting for TV. But did I miss the part in the book about a sword wielding "ninja angel" helping Lot and his family escape Sodom? confused

It is what will get the point across to the viewers and I am under the impression that it is geared towards a younger audience according to our church,

I would like to think that all angels are ninja like. grin

I too miss Chuck H as Mosses

I took a Bible class in college that went over the history of the bible, stories, historical context n stuff.

Cambridge Companion to the Bible was a pretty interesting text to have along.

Interesting, I had been planning on taking a look but as mentioned, it's the history channel.

How many alien references will we see?

Lots.

in all seriousness, the history of the Bible is fascinating. I actually just busted out the Cambridge companion the other night to reference something.

Hopefully they didn't present things that are patently false as history. I'd probably jump through the TV if they present stuff like the earth is 6000 years old or the entire land surface area was covered during a flood or this people living with dinosaur business. Not that the majority of stuff in the Bible is at all verifiable history.

Of course this is the nazi alien history channel so, I wouldn't be surprised if they go more fiction than nonfiction. all of these so-called educational nonfiction channels have went the way of mumbo jumbo. Ghost hunters, bigfoot, etc etc etc.

I like how cute the raptor is in this one.

I will still say that a historical study of the bible is quite interesting.

Also interesting to note that when I took "The Bible" in college, my class was located in the Science building. I thought that was a bit ironic.

People relate Darren McGavin, God rest his soul, to only "A Christmas Story" and a bunch of two bit parts. grin

To me he will always be Carl Kolchak from the movie and series The Night Stalker. wink

I can still see the fan stopping grin

Speaking of dinosaurs, That will be one of my first questions to JC...what exactly happened to the big lizards anyway

And the ninja angels..that's a new twist. The people of Sodom and Gomorah wanted to have sex with them. Lot offered them his daughters instead. No wonder God melted the place.

Interesting too...Abraham's son by the servant lady started the Arab race. His wife ended up giving him a son Isaac who started the Jewish race. They both come from the same blood.

What really has me thinking is the fact that we are decendants of Mosses confused

If the "History" channel is going to portray this as real history, I'd like them to show all the truly gruesome details.

I want to see the looks of terror on Lotts daughters when he offers them up to the mob. Next scene could be the "rightous" Lott getting drung and getting his own daughters pregnant.

Maybe we could see the scene where god sends two bears to maul 40 some children, that'd be fun.

It would be interesting to know what the carnivores ate when the got off the ark.

We won't see any of these or any of the other ghastly, awful and horrific things contained in this "good book" though, but they are there for the reading in this fine moral guide. sick

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess atheist? grin

Seriously though peatmoss I would agree there a many circumstances in the Bible that are difficult to understand. Some people can come to a conclusion that they don't have the ability to fully comprehend all things in the Bible and that "our thoughts are not God's thoughts". Others are simply turned of by those things that don't make sense and believe if there is a God they should be able to fully understand everything he allows or does.

Didn't seem to read this part? What book of the Bible was it in? Or did you add it in your version? confused
