Huntin&Fishin
Anybody else see this picture on the MN Wolf hunting page on facebook? Saposaly shot near Nisswa. The thing is HUGE!, No matter where shot
NoWiser
I've seen that picture floating around. I could be wrong, but if I had to put my money on it I would say it is photoshopped. If it's real, depending on the size of the guy, that wolf is well over 200 pounds. I just don't think wolves get that big, and if they do I don't think a guy would be able to hold one up for a picture by himself. If I'm wrong and it is real, that truly is a monster. Musky Buck
There's the reason for the moose decline lol ! That 1 needs to be in Africa where there's elephant for nibblies. Like to see a trapper walk up on that guy. Glad no one near Nisswa hit him on the road would total er out. Bit skeptical actually a lot as shouldn't the fella holding him be wearing orange ? tfran123
NoWiser:Question, the wolf you got appears to be a very large male - if I recall 117 pounds. In speaking with the DNR or anyone else do you have any insights as to how big wolves get? I get the sense that many people over exagerate the size of them, I always hear about 150 pound wolves, etc. But in actuality an 80 pounder might be more of an average size with a large one being like yours. Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? That sounds about right to me, there migth be a 150lber in MN but like deer it would need to be a genetic freak to be that large. There are probably a few up in Canada and Alaska but again they are probably rare.

Any thoughts? I think that you are right about people exaggerating the size. I talked to a fair number of people from the DNR and they all said about the same. A full grown male will typically be 80-110 pounds, with females topping out closer to 80 pounds. Like Bear55 said, there may be a 150 lb running around the state, but that would be very rare. I would say an 80 pound average size for a wolf in MN would be pretty close. All I know is that at 117 pounds, I was not able to hold mine up for a picture like the one above. Granted, one of the shoulders was broken making it hard to hold on to, but that is a lot of weight to lift when you are holding on to a limp body. NoWiser
another mn wolf... maybe lol Ha ha. Funny you should post this picture. Over Thanksgiving I was out in Montana hunting mule deer. Where I stayed they had stacks of hunting magazines. In one of them was an article about wolf hunting in eastern Europe. They cut wolf tracks and follow them into an area where they are sure the pack is spending time in. They have a couple miles of string with those red flags on it and make a HUGE circle around the wolves with the string, and quietly get out of there. A day or two later they come back. The wolves are afraid to cross the string with the flags, so they slowly circle it looking for a way out. The hunters get on the downwind side and wait, and when the wolve come by they shoot them. It was pretty interesting, but I'm pretty sure the picture you just posted was in that article! Looked like the same guy and wolf, anyways. dietdew
I'm guessing if they are in full snow camo the pics aren't from MN. Only because you need to wear blaze orange.

Musky Buck
That dark near black one reminds me of the for sure only wolf I've seen in the wild east of Bemidji. Good luck to those after them.
Musky Buck
I don't want to start a mess of a thread so figured a quick word here lol did you see or hear that Wendy Williams posed nude for PETA and she wants Adele to also lol, I had coffee spraying out of my nose, is this how they raise funds because that calendar would cost more to make than profit from sales lol. I said What the ? Anyway if they were posing on a ncie wolf rug I'd entertain a copy for an x-mas gift to low level friend lol.
