Like Hoggs said, I have the infernos too and they work really well for me. I would also reccomend the Saskatchewans if you do alot of standing out on the ice. Have relatives that have em' and they swear by them. Nice and light and lots of insulation between the liner and the ice. I think they have something like 3" of insultaion between your foot and the ice.

My heavy weights are Baffin Impacts. Great warm boots, just not great for long distance walking. My slightly lighter boots are Sorel Caribou's which are also great, a bit better for walking, but still a pack boot and not for high mileage. Both have been great boots and kept me warm.

I had some Ice Kings and although they are priced right and warm I found them to be really klunky when walking around. I gave them to my son and he is happy as he((. I now have some Rocky pacs and I am very satisfied with the fit and warmth. I also like the built in ice cleats. I tried on a pair of the Inferno's and wish I had discovered them before I bought the Rocky boots. Oh well, 10 years from now when I'm in the market for new boots I'll make sure I check out what the Infernos have morphed into.

I have a pair of Helly Hansen Lynx boots that are extremely light, waterproof, and pretty warm. They are great for when I am setting up, hole hopping, or need to be mobile.

If it is -5 or colder, I'll have a pair of Mickey boots with for when I am just sitting.

Equally important to the boots are what you have under. It is usualluy recommended to have on a pair of light wicking socks next to your skin, and a pair of wool socks over that.

I've always heard good reviews about the Infernos but probably won't ever own a pair. Being a mobile fisherman, I've been way too happy with Mukluks and now Camuks. The Camuks Xtreme was made for people who can't believe a Mukluk can be warm (just ask the Eskimos) and has a thicker sole. The lower is completely water proof and although the uppers are not water proof, once sprayed will shed water just fine. Besides, who stands in 6 + inches of water for much time while ice fishing?

They're light and far from bulky. I never look forward to being able to get them off my feet even for driving home.

Just another option.

I am in the market for new ice fishing boots too.

After the last few Minnesota Winters with tons of slush - I will not buy a boot that isnt 100% waterproof up and down. This is a must.

I was at Cabellas this afternoon. They recommended the "predator Dry Plus". Apparently its 100% waterproof and also has a sole that has some built in material that is supposed to prevent the transport of cold to your feet. I am almost sold...but would would love to hear any input from anyone that has owned a pair. They are around 179.00 so it would be nice to hear some feedback before purchasing.

Thanks!

Hoffer

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
