So my boat sits in the garage from the time I take it out of storage to the time I put it back in storage (other than fishing of course) and the ONE time it sits outside someone helps themself to my electronics and trolling motor.

Yeah, I should have removed them, lesson learned. I had all the compartments locked so nothing else is missing, but my HDS 7, HDS 5 including map chips on both and my terrova trolling motor are gone (I didnt notice if they got the IPilot remote though).

The boat was outside for less than a week. I took it in to have a swing tongue put on last Monday, picked up Friday. Yesterday I noticed the missing items because the support poles were not up. I thought they possibly just fell down during trailering. NOPE, its because someone was in there.

Not sure WHERE or WHEN it happened exactly. My house over the weekend or at the marine place. Really ticks me off. I believe I had everything itemized on my insruance policy so hopefully not out too much.

Ouch, that sucks! Too bad some people have to be scummy frown My buddie had a 15hp merc stolen right off his boat here in town about a month ago. Theives are everywhere, its a shame when we can't leave things out anymore, even just for one night.

I havent contacted the marine place yet. I just found out yesterday and work has me busy so far today (as you can tell LOL).

I will replace with Lowrance units. I have all the other wiring there, ethernet cables and I really have them figured out now. Used the Birds a bit, not a lot. I think they are simpler to use for sure, but I like the Lowrance units especially with the new Gen2 touch models now. Not going to replace with a Gen2 Touch, just looking to get what I had.

Part that probably makes me the most angry is all the waypoints and tracks I had.

It takes thieves a little longer to get the lowrance units off them Birds because they just pop into place, mine had 3 cables on each unit. Surprised they didnt just cut the cables.

That stinks. I read a post on this site several years ago that advised folks to remove anything they don't want stolen before bringing the boat to a marina for repairs. This included seats, batteries, dock lines, etc. Unfortunately, people will steal just about anything if they can get their hands on it. Hopefully, your insurance will cover the loss.

My bet would be that the theft took place at the dealers. I wouldn't let too much time pass before contacting them. I would also bet your will hear from the dealer that they are not responsible for any lost of stolen items. This, of course, is dump because they do have an obligation to secure your boat when it is under their car

I hear you when you say the loss of the waypoints and routes are the real bummer.

Yikes..Waypoints is a bummer. Last i backed mine up was in June, and i know i've added 500 since then. If you didn't back them up, be sure to do that in the future!!
Kicking myself bigtime for not doing this. It is definitely going to occur from here on out!!!

I will calld dealer on way home tonight. I dont want to get too crabby about it with them because I have no level of certainty where the offense happened. I would "like" to think it was there, but we have had issues in our neighborhood in the past.

Lesson definitely learned.

Here's where I should really be mad. So I brought it to the dealer to have a swing tongue put on. When I bought the boat in 2010 I paid for a swing tongue. I get the call that it was ready for pick up, get there and NO SWING TONGUE. Since it was a new boat, I told them I was taking it regardless.

Well, then I figured I didnt really need it since it fit in my garage so scrapped the idea.

Well, if it had been done in the first place I wouldnt have brought it back (now that my storage place doesnt have enough length for it).

Talked to service manager the other day and asked if they had any reported issues in the last week or so. He said they hadnt, which I tend to believe them. They have a top notch operation and I am pretty sure my boat was in a secured area while it was there, but not 100%. He said he would do some checking with others in the storage facility and see if they have noticed anything fishy and call me back.

I keep watching the popular for sale sites for something to show up, but not overly optimistic.

Sucks I was going to take the boys out fishing the next few days due to MEA now I have no electronics (could make due without trolling motor). Probably time to winterize it now I guess.

Don't feel bad, unfortunately I forgot to lock my vehicle one night parked in my drive way a couple weeks ago on a chilly night. Normally I would have a window open and dog would have heard something but the other half was cold so she shut it. Bottom line, came out to go to work in the AM and found the vehicle had been "shopped" and my GPS was missing..nothing else..even was kind enough to leave my Boss and LRB CD'S. Called cops, found out neighbors had the same thing happen same night in this quiet neighborhood. Cops claim that when it starts getting chilly, people close their windows and the crooks know it so they go "shopping" to pay off their drug dealers, etc. with easily fenced stuff ie. electonics. Can also tell by them leaving the Boss and Little River Band CD..kids. I'm now in DEFCON 1 mode and eyeballing anybody that comes down my quiet street that I don't recognize, I would love nothing more then catching one of these little Sh*ts in the act...

thats all fine & dandy info for after the fact but it would be very nice & helpful if your local enforcement officials would leak or give that info out to general public via social media or something as a season tidbit or something to help all as a friendly reminder

Had that happen to me as well. Quiet neighborhood, side street. Ipad was gone in the morning..thought the doors were locked.

I am going through C-list as we speak and am going to pick up a deer camera and mount it where it cant be easily seen. Go out at night when I am about to call it a night and turn it on.

Yes, seats get stolen, and I was the victim!!. Lucky, if you can call it that, I was headed home from a week of fishing when it happened, so it didn't affect the fishing trip.

Stopped for lunch at a popular chain restaurant, was in eating and when I came out, I did a walk around as I always do when I've stopped. 3 Seats were gone. Nothing else, just the seats. Be it, this was 25 years ago, but somebody wanted my seats and took them. In daylight, at a restaurant.

Be surprised how brazen thiefs can be when they want something. eek

Always wondered what leads people to steal. Is it a learned or a born trait, or just a temptation that some can't resist. crazy

Had my vehicle broken into at the public access up where I live. Called the police for insurance purposes. They told me that they think they knew who was doing it, but couldn't catch them. He said if I catch them, to take 'em out in the woods and beat the #$%&^$ out of them. Don't think that that would go over so good. I'd probably get ripped off, beat up, and sued on top of it.

Not only do theives rip stuff off at resturants, the ones a really don;t like are the ones who will unlock your ball hitch steal your spare tire or steal the lock down pins from your popup camper. I have had these things done while eating in a res. I always do a walk around when I return.
