Why do some people just have to keep pushing pushing pushing? It really is quite simple.

If you keep catching walleyes out of season you are harrassing them. Move on or adjust your tactics so you or not harrassing a protected species.

I'm with DTRO on this one. I'm all for a "No Harvest" season.

Yep, will not be "pushing" anything in a few weeks when crappie fishing. Will not be able to keep the large mouth off any presentation anywhere on the lake.i will be on...well if i want to catch a crappie that is. I do not think because of turning the openers into "Hallmark" holidays I should have to quit fishing just because the bass are attacking a 1 /32nd loaded up with a 1 inch plastic. A catch and release season solves the problem....unless your " Hallmark" wink

Quote:
This statement is Bizarre.

Apparently everything a LEO says is true and cannot be questioned.

Nothing bizarre about it! Just common sense is all. Go ahead and fight or question something as simple as a misdemeanor traffic or fish violation if you feel wronged, maybe you have. The bottom line is the Judges through wisdom and experience know that between 99.99 and 100 percent of time that the Leo's are telling the truth. There wouldn't be any reason in the world for a LEO to waste everybody's time, jeopardize there career by lying about something so trivial.

Again, being this isn't my 1st rodeo I do understand the Anti-Law-enforcements types paranoia when it comes to anything they say.

Thats not my problem, thats there's!

Now back to the topic of an open year round catch and release season. I find that pretty interesting!

It would be nice to hear from a CO on this.. i've often wondered the same about Musky... Just how large does my bait have to be before i've ceased fishing for "large pike" and began fishing for "musky".

I enjoy fishing for large pike... but don't want to get dinged by a CO...

i have no interest in intentualy targeting fish that are not in season. it's realy a simple concept to me. it's called following the law. i think some do it not knowing the regulations, but that's the minority. some do it because they probably feel they can get away with it, and generaly do. we dont have enough CO's to go around and target these people who are breaking the law.

having said that, should a responsible catch and release law become law, that would be fine with me. because at that time it would be "the" law. a lot of these laws [seasons] now on the books are there for economic reasons as well. Protect walleyes and bass primarily as i think these two species are the primary cash cows for the state as far as licences, retail taxes, resorts, tourism, and more.

do we protect all fish as they spawn, i dont think so [steelhead, loopers, and salmon come to mind]. however the season for those are open while they spawn because they are easier to catch at that time and again economic factors come into play. a catch and release season for all species may increase fishing licence sales. however it would also need more CO's to cover this increased pressure on the waters. at that time to see if anyone is keeping them or perhast to see how ethical the anglers are with C@R. by that i mean what type of baits would be allowed to use.

i dont know if this has been discussed, but what methods would be allowed in this C@R seasons? live bait or artificial baits or both. if live baits are allowed in this period i would be against it. however artificial baits should be used and with those baits the barb should be pressed smooth with the hook. that would be my idea. i do this when fishing for stream trout in the upper streches of the rivers on the north shore. the idea would be to enjoy the catch but release with little or no harm to the fish as possible. good luck.

There is none.

Muskies are nothing special regardless of what some people think.

If I am on Mille Lacs, LOTW, Cass, Vermillion, Tonka or any other Musky lake and throwing giant baits for Pike I am doing nothing wrong.

Are you doing anything about it besides whining on a few forums?

Agree, but it is very possible that the law is perhaps more shaped by the tourism/resort lobby than sound biological science..... and maybe should be reconsidered. Also, maybe those poor lowly sacrificial panfish could be get some protection then too wink

as i stated before, it is my opinion that these laws are economicaly based as far as seasons along with the biological aspects. we all want "things" as far as seasons are concerned that favor our favorite species. we cant have any of these wants if you dont have a DNR equiped to handle our wants or ideas.

panfish are a good example for quality fishing in the future. if we dont have the CO's out in the field to enforce current laws, how will future laws be properly enforced. having good fishing ethics [catch and release of all large fish, including panfish] is something far more valuable than laws on the wish list, with non-sufficiant enforcement. good luck.

Bingo!........can't change some of the existing mindset and certainly not enough money for enforcement, but can at least show and teach the children that you can have your cake and eat it too!!!

To all you wannabe game wardens/snitches/rats, stick the TIP number where the sun don’t shine. I obey the game and fish laws and require my fishing and hunting companions to do the same. Period. Anything beyond that doesn’t sit right with the way I was brought up and try to live. It’s not my job, it’s none of my business, and I can only guess why someone might need more fish or game than the law allows; maybe they’re unemployed and trying to feed their kids.

I hope all you folks that use TIP are not hypocrites and are also turning in all your acquaintances who drink too much before they operate their boat, drive home, or cheat on their taxes, or drive faster than the speed limit, or maybe enjoy a “smoke” or two.

+1 I mean come on... if someone is keeping a bunch of fish over the limit or out of season is justified, or if someone is poaching deer but for all of these stupid laws out there.... get real.
