Nothing against the Pfluegers. I like a smaller reel / spool when icefishing. I've got Tica Cetus's (LF500) over 5 years old without issues. Solid, dependable, smooth drag, smooth over all. Around $30. You can spend a bit more for more spool, but why? You can also get em with more ball bearings.

I guess in the summer, I'm pro bigger spool if casting, and all the ball bearings I can afford, but in winter, I'm after compact and durability. I just put another Tica Cetus on my last Walleye SH. Lovin' it. good luck...

A size 20 Pflueger has the same size spool as a 500 series Tica, I measured, a buddy lost a bet on that measurement, lol. grin

Maybe it was bad luck but I have had two Ticas that had "rough" spots in the drag right out of the box. They went back...

No issues with either pflueger trions, presidents, or Shimanos for me...

I've got a few different sets of reels. I have 8 pflueger presidents that are 7 years old & 3 trion that are a bit newer on walleye rods. Zero problems. I also have 7 tica on panfish rods, all about the same age as the presidents. 4 of them have loping drags that let the line out unevenly. I tear the down, clean and lube them at least every other year. I personally like the looks of the presidents. The tica spools also have a tiny internal diameter.

This year I have 5 siennas and 4 cabelas fish eagle 2 (essentially a pflueger) that were my dad's, the paint on the shimano reels rubs off easily. My presidents look pretty new still.

I've got a few Shimano Sedona 500's, they are nice reels and can be found for $50-$60. I also have a couple other shimanos, and a pflueger or two. But IMO for the $, the abu garcia/cardinal 100ui or 300ui are a great reel. Very smooth, great anti reverse and have smooth drag. Been running my first pair over 4 years now and have yet to find a flaw. Best thing is they are only around $30.

I bought the same rod a few weeks ago. I ended up putting a sienna 500 on it but I really didnt want to spend more than $35. I do have a tica GV500 I think it is on a different rod and do really like it. If you're spending close to 50 tica does make better models than the one i mentioned. The presidents are also nice reels. My dad has a few pfluegers and they are smooth! All in all there are lots of good options. All my buddy does is brag about his sienna's blah blah blah but he drinks to much of that shimano water...

I like the Shimano Sienna 500 at $30, that's what I put on my TB rod.

I started replacing my Ticas with the Sienna 500's and have been impressed for the $. I also have several Sedonas and for the $ I give the Sienna the nod fpr ice fishing.

i have the pflueger presidents on my summer rods. they are a great reel. I have one abu 400 on an ice rod that has been flawless. I have 2 ticas. They are all good reels and i haven't had a problem with any of them in 3-5 years of use.

I have a few Jason Mitchell combos, and the main reason I purchased the second combo was just because of the reel. I would look into the Jason Mitchell Elite Series Ice Reel, the drag is really smooth and it is a smaller reel. I am sure one day I will purchase a higher end rod, and this is the reel I will purchase to go with it. I found it on some websites going for $24.99. Personally I think this reel gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Oh, and this is my first post on this site. I have really enjoyed reading and learning the past few weeks after I found HSO. Thanks all, and Good Luck!

    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
