Going througth the Ice

I think either suit is great, AA and Striker suit both float, but from what I hear this one has more bells and whistles. I believe Dtro had a great write up on these suits a page or two back in the icefishing forum, check it out!!

I have talked to Shawn at Striker Brands many time via email and phone, and this company is top notch. These suits are so much better than the AA suits. There will be people that disagree, I get that but these suits ARE better!

I Cant wait to Get my set!

Striker really scored big with this years ice conditions. Talk about perfect timing to release a floating suit.

My only issue with floating suits is that since they are made to float and keep the water out, that means they also keep the water in (no breathability) so if you are a person who sweats a lot, you better have some base layers that wick that moisture off your skin.

I agree. I'm currently in the market for a suit and I'm doing a ton of research on different ice fishing suits. So far the Strikers' list of features stands above the the rest. They just seem to be more intuitively designed. It's like someone took an AA suit and then actually listened to customer feedback.

Both companies seem committed to customers should the early version of suits have some sort of problem with wear and tear.

striker claims the suits breathe, theres two layers, outter layer totaly water proof, inside layer, insulates, and breathes and inbetween the layers is the fabric that adds bouyancy, thats one reason i got the striker bibs

the breathability, compared to AA,and your right, good timing on relesing them this year, they will sell a ton of them.

Regarding the “latest flavor” attitude….Why is it so bad to have multiple options when we go to make a purchase? I for one applaud the fact that we now have a few options in a floating suit. I’ve seen several times in the past few years in which people would say, “I wish we had another option” or “we need some competition”. Well now we do.

I also say as I have time and time again. 99.9% chance I will never need the floating part of the suit, but that .1% chance is enough to make me want to have that feature. Sure it costs more, and that is always a serious factor or consideration, but when compared to the MSRP of a SnoSuit (which it compares similarly to) you might actually save a few bucks. wink

Also, just because you see posts pop up promoting or talking about a product doesn’t mean that people are screaming “go out and buy this thing now!”, consider it more of an outlet to learn about new products and the evolution of our sport.

I can only speak for myself, but personally I get really turned off when I read words such as “best, biggest, fastest, lightest, strongest” when I’m reading about new things. Now if you have facts to back up these claims it’s one thing, but to just spout off with, “this is the best (insert product here) I’ve ever used” is a bit lazy in my opinion.

All I have to say about this Striker suit is that I like it a lot. Compared to my AA suit it has some better features and some where it comes up a bit short. I haven’t had sub zero temps with the Striker to test that out yet, but even so, based on the single digits and teens I HAVE seen, I know it’s safe to assume that this will be one warm suit. I have zero hesitation at all to make that assumption. Where it comes up short against the AA though is that it’s not available in Camo for hunting, it’s not light enough to use on cool spring and falls days, and a couple of minor annoyances such as front pocket size that seem a little too large and hood snaps that could be a bit stronger.

I don’t think you can go wrong with either, but having used both, I’d give the nod to Striker Ice, especially if you fish out in the bitter cold a lot.

Guess what, there are a lot of great suits on the market today, but here is one I think you should put on your list when you go shopping. cool

While I would agree that the fabric on the floating suits that provides the bouyancy doesn't breathe, the Striker Ice suit does vent very well. Check out my review of the suit here: My Striker Ice Suit Review

While getting gear ready on my last trip (first with the Striker Suit) I started to overheat and thought "oh boy, here we go again". Then I remembered the vents on the armpits, opened them up, and opened the zipper a few inches on my chest. The cool, dry air flowed through and had me comfortable in just a couple minutes. The zipper design on the bibs also allows them to be opened at the top, which will cool you down. Seriously look at this suit. It is very, very nice. I am very picky about my outdoor clothing too, and not afraid to admit it when I'm not completely happy with something I buy. I wore this suit in temps from 10 to 45 doing everything from sitting on a sled fishing, to some nasty portages getting the snowmobile stuck. All I wore under it was long underwear tops and bottoms. Only once, on one particularly nasty portage, did I have to take the coat all the way off to avoid getting sweated up. I am also 100% confident it will keep me warm fishing in -20 to -30 temps outside on my snowmobile all day.

I have a life jacket that floats every time.

that is a great option, if you don't mind the bulk. I don't even like mine in the boat in the summer. Pretty sure I wouldn't like it on the ice. One less thing to think about here.

I've tried the inflatable life-jackets which are less bulky but there is something mental that bothers me about them NOT possibly working on immersion. When I use to fish sketchy ice I'd wear the big bulky guaranteed life-jackets.

Now I just rely on the snoopy neighbors or some lady walking her dog to call for help anytime I'm the ice here in the hood...

Dtro, you should really consider buying the LITE bibs for your spring and summer fishing. They've been great in the coldest weather we've had this year, granted i run hot, but i don't see my self needing more than the LITE on the coldest day. I've been out in single digits with 40mph wind. Good test. I just wish the material was a bit tougher, but i am glad i bought them. I've made a few mistakes and put holes in them, and i think that is because i was used to my carharts for the last several years and you really have to TRY HARD to put a hole in carharts.

After wearing the LITE bibs the last few weeks, i think i'll get the LITE coat to go with them since i'm usually hot more than I am cold.

Turning point for me on buying strikers, were the length. These are great for a tall guy like myself.

Are these the ones I am supposed to want now?

I thought AA was the rage, be-all-end-all?

Confused... frown

Chode I doubt your confused. wink

There is always going to be the latest greatest product coming out almost yearly. Nothing wrong with that at all. My hope is people will see that there is more than 1 floating ice suit now and it will hopefully have AA and other suits improving to keep up with the latest and greatest.

With that said I love my Striker Suit so far. The only thing I wish is that it was colder outside so I could really give it a good few testing runs.

Looks like the next 4 days will be single digits up here so Im hoping to finally be able to get a fairly cold weather test run in. So far its all I hoped and more. I have the regular suit not the light.

I have a life jacket that floats every time.

More importantly is that my 8, 10 and 14 year old have life jackets that float every time.

I may have missed something but I don't see any kids sizes, just adult stuff with these suits. Possible market opportunity?

    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
