Born2Fish
Just got one for Xmas(using it to post right now) , and was wondering if anyone else has tried one out, or owns one too. So far it has been great, and you can use tons of apps with it. If anyone has any suggestions about diff apps, or maybe even a good book or two, that would be great! OnAFly
I got my wife the Nook Tablet. It was a coin flip between that and the Kindle Fire. Both were easy to use.
Dbl
I have had my Fire since the release day. I have read at least 8 books on it, watched 7 or 8 movies a few TV series and run about 60 different apps. A few apps I use frequently:-Netflix-Doc's to Go -Dolphin HD Browser ( I like it better than the built in browser)-FS File Explorer (Side loading apps)-Gemini App Manager-Get Jer (Lots of apps for side loading)-Screen Filter (Dimming the display at night for reading)-WiFi Analyzer-Map Quest
Born2Fish
So far I really like the Fire. I know that a lot of people don't like it for the fact that it has a backlight and it is a little on the heavy side. But I personally think that reading books is quite easy and nice on it. As for it being a little heavier, I can see if it weighed like 3 pounds, but really its not that bad. I have only scratched the surface with apps on it so far. And I am sure that more and more will start coming to it once it gets going more.
nofishfisherman
Can you run the Navionics App on it? Do they have the GPS functionality that a smart phone has?

Born2Fish
Yeah no GPS function for it. And it kinda sucks its only wifi, but I can deal with that. I have a bunch of apps for it, but nothing spectacular yet. One of the better things about it is, if you are an Amazon Prime member you can "borrow" books for free for a certain amount of time. I do like pretty much everything about it though. I have seen a few things about being able to get ice cream sandwich for it. I have even seen a video of a guy that put it on his fire. But most of the reports I have read so far are that it is pretty buggy still and its getting worked on.
delcecchi
I think the way it works is you can borrow one book a month, and there is no specified return date. But I don't think you can borrow another one until you return that one and it's been a month. Many public libraries lend kindle books now. Rochester does, and Ramsey County does. Really cool to borrow books from anywhere in the country.
Dbl
I have borrowed a number of books from Hennepin County Library. They just started making their e-books available in Kindle format so borrowing is a breeze. I noticed that as of Jan 1. only Hennepin County residents can check them out. That will likely be the trend as e-books get more popular.I just started using an app called Splashtop which allows you to have remote access to any of your personal computers. Very handy for someone like me who travels.
delcecchi
All you need is a buddy in Hennepin county with a library card. My daughter lives in Ramsey county, and if I get desperate, my son lives in Hennepin county. So that would be three libraries. I can't read that much. SledNeck
I love mine, I joined Netflix just for the Fire. I just covert movies off my harddrive and they play awesome on my tablet (ipad2)What size storage do kindles have?
CAMAN
I don't own one, but whenever I look at reviews of apps in the market, the only negative reviews of most apps I see are coming from Kindle Fire owners saying "Doesn't run right on Kindle Fire" etc. Just something to thing about when buying one, don't expect it to run high intensity apps. upnorth
I think any comparing a kindle fire to an iPad or higher end Droid system is going be sorely disappointed. If you are looking at a kindle fire you are looking for a limited low end device to do limited amount of things. You want full blown capabilities of the iPad or high end droids pony up the $$ and buy one.
Jim Almquist
If a person is willing to wait they won't be disappointed. Read on CNET they best of CES this year and it looks like you will be able to get a quad core 7" tablet for a little more than a Kindle Fire.
