Morning or Evening

Recommended Posts

Generally morning, but I'm in deeper cover where they still feel semi-safe then, the evenings I'm closer to the edge of the cover, but I like AM best as you have light for field dressing and dragging purposes so some areas I won't night hunt for those reasons especially the dragging part. However, morning hunts by far my largest bucks, I'd say 20 out of 28 bucks were morning, but my spot(s) lend themselves for morning action more so than evening, thing is that last 1/2 hour of daylight I can't always see there racks the best, AM rarely for me means right at the crack of dawn, those are for the field hunters, AM could mean 7:30, 8:30,9:30,10:30 in the morning where you know at a glance yep he's the one, toward dark things get a little wishy washy and I choose not to shoot if I'm not 100% certain.

Morning, 830am, however the question or morning or evening is very dependent on your hunting location. Are you near food, bedding etc?

This ^^^ I typically have shot my deer in the morning with a firearm but with the bow it's usually the evening. It depends on if your hunting a bedding area - which I typically hunt with a firearm or a food source - which I typically hunt with a bow earlier in the year.

Way back when meaning the 80's I could darn near shoulder my gun at 8:30AM and take the safety off on opening day, and here he'd come, for some reason that was thee time. Both AM and PM can be magic, you'll learn what seems best at your stand location with time. I realize to old zone 4 having a 2 day season if I got an AM deer that was the end of my season so I rarely hunted PM back then. Things have changed a lot since then, I used to wear red clothing back then lol, metal tags, 0 cell phones, poorer farming practices(2 row pickers, no combine), etc. If deerless, I wouldn't skip either prime time and 11-2 can be magic, it was for quite a few this year.

80's and 90's morning for sure, hands down, since so many changes have happened in my area with the deer, hunters, land, and license options I'm pretty 50/50 on it, if you field hunt evenings may be best as you can easily get to your stand and not burn the deer off the field, AM if you're in deep.
