paceman
JoePa should resign immediately or be fired. Absolutely no excuse for covering up or ignoring what was going on there. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about those poor boys being abused...
zepman
So you think the coach outranks the AD? In this circumstance, there is no doubt about it...
milkingman
At Penn st their was a saying, God lives on that side of the mountain, Joe lives on this side. So I think Joe was definitely higher than the A.D.
Triple_D
Are you serious? You think if Joe knew he had been molesting boys he would just turn a cheek since they are buddies? If so why did he report to the AD and staff about what the grad assist saw?

pushbutton
Watching the news conference right now....nice to see the University "moving itself in the right direction" .......and for the grand finale....."we gotta go"
mskyfshntchr
That press conference was completely ridiculous!!! The reporters are all pro-paterno and are super PO'd!Do they not understand he did a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE thing by not calling the cops or making sure something happened to this guy? People- this is only football. What happened to these kids is real life and so horrible. I hope they can heal and recover as best possible.... zepman
Knew it was coming...it absolutely had to be done. Paterno knows way more than what he is coming forward with and will likely take it to his grave. He worked side by side with Sandusky for over 30 years...give me a break!! From 1998 -2004 was the worst stretch in Paterno's career...some good seasons...some WAY below average...especially in the early 2000's. It was reported tonight that the PSU president and A.D. had asked him to step down during that time period and he refused. He said GFY!! Funny, how that matches up with the charges and time-line everybody is talking about now. That just goes to show you how much power he actually had there. He couldn't be fired...even by the president of the University. This whole thing wreaks...badly! I truly believe it's just the start of the snowball "effect" that will eventually land Paterno and some of his staff in criminal court. I think he knew...he did nothing about it to save his job and legacy...go back to the time-line. What a shame!!Sandusky has yet to speak....JoPa better be crossing his fingers. Surface Tension
To the handful at PSU that knew what was happening, it was more important to keep this from getting out then the welfare of the boys being molested. Maybe in the eyes of the law Joe did nothing wrong. If this Sandusky had your kid in the shower room would you have done more?Just so you know Joe, Sandusky was free to continue molesting and rapping children and you could have stopped it. Well put. If everything reported is true I can't believe what this 28 year old grad. asst. did after what he saw. You see a 10 year-old being raped in the locker room shower and all you do is tell your boss? Imagine you're working late at your job and you see something like this going on. Do you simply tell your boss the next day? You don't go physically put an end to it or at very least yell at him to end it? AND YOU DON'T CALL THE !$%^@#$^ POLICE YOURSELF? The program's only concern is covering up the embarrassment it would cause and its potential impact on fundraising and recruiting. It makes you wonder what type of other crimes are covered up by other football programs across the country. sick. Sorry Jo Pa you've built up some good guy capital over the years but not that much. You're not the worst guy in this story but you behaved bad enough to be fired.
toughguy
To the students that rioted last night...WAKE UP!!!! This guy is only a coach. A coach that covered up a child molestation. Forget your football team for one second and think of the lives that were ruined. I hope you look back on your role in the riot and support of Paterno in a few years and realize how wrong you were. I saw this on Twitter this monrning. "We WERE.... Penn State!"
SkitterPopper
Quote:I hope you look back on your role in the riot and support of Paterno in a few years and realize how wrong you were. I was just saying the same thing to a guy at work here. I would like to interview these students in 10 years when they have young ones of their own. I would ask them to look at their child and answer one question. How would you feel if what happened at Penn State happened to your child sitting there? I think we all know how 99.9% of the people will answer then. I think this is the right step in holding people accountable for covering this stuff up. I would actually like to see it taken one step further. I would like to see people prosecuted as accessories if they know a crime was committed to a juvenile and they did not report it to law enforcement. This should be common sense but it happens over and over and over.

I heard last night that the DA that was working the case was missing and presumed dead. If this is related to the case the plot will really thicken. goblueM
You know what I want to know? Why does McQueary still have HIS job? He witnessed the act in person, yet A) ran away and did nothing to stop it in the moment and didn't call the cops, and instead called his dad. HOW is there any gray area there with what to do? Everybody is focusing on Paterno, but McQueary should have called 911 immediately, then gone and stopped the act in progress, instead of running away and just reporting it to his boss
mrklean
he isnt coaching this weekend after receiving threats. I have wondered the same everyone is after Paterno but this guy did the exact samething yet still has his job and he was the witness. gatorhunter
Paterno had to go and I think that the end of year retirement was the correct way. Clearly Paterno did not do enough at the time that he found out. Unfortunately, Paterno's firing has replaced the actual sexual assaults as the story! By firing Paterno, all Penn State did was take attention off the scum bag Sandusky who is the real violator.
Jim Almquist
I agree - it is a tragedy, and it IS a sad end to Joe-Pa's career. I don't know the facts, but it sure seems like he did the bare minimum he was required to - there's a lot that should have been done at PSU, and could have been done. Was the JoePa required to more than he did? No. Should he have pushed more? Maybe so. I agree that JoePa should have done more and it should have never gotten to this point. A man of his stature should not fired but under the circumstance you can't blame PSU for what they had to do.
