Hope the Bear killed?

Hey guys and gals. It was reported on CCO that Hope the bear was killed. I don't hunt. But I just wanted to see what all of you bear hunters think about the possibility that Hope the Bear was killed over the weekend.

From my understanding, the bear was taken legally, hence I have ZERO problem with it. However, it does seem to have upset some people in certain circles in the "community".

Your thoughts?

They cannot find her and suspect she was killed. A hunter set up a bait about .5 miles from WRI's research cabin and Hope hasn't been seen since. I have no problem with it, the hunter avoided all the collared bears, 2 of whom visited his bait. If he is the hunter who took Hope, he did nothing wrong. She had no collar.

The fans are insane and are going to cause a huge amount of trouble for Lynn if he doesn't reign them in soon. I understand they are upset. I understand many of them are anti-hunting but I really wish they could visit a feedlot or slaughterhouse and see where their dinners come from, if they find hunting so barbaric. I feel bad for the hunter if he did shoot Hope. He did nothing wrong but there are people trying to find out if the information about registered bears is public so they can find out who he is. They are psycho, and scary. Lynn and Sue apparently do not believe the hunter, if he did take Hope, was gunning for her or anything like that. They suspect it is him because they asked him and he did not answer the email.

i thought i read someplace he got back to them and said he hadnt taken a bear yet? Either way its loose loose once again for hunters because of this group. Even if Lynn says hes fine with hunting then why have it shown on Kare and CCO about the bearing missing and a hunting setting his bait up near by, just a joke.

If the bear was killed legally and ethically, the best thing we can do is show support to the hunter. Not necesarily a pat on the back but support in the sense that he/she did nothing wrong. It would be very easy for some lunatic to retaliate.

Congrats to the hunter. AS far as these ants they need to give it up and the DNR should tell them to back off theres a hunting season for a reason. This is just away to try and stop hunting altogether before we know it every thing will have a dam collar on it.

There is a 100% chance that hope was going to die, either by hunter, car, or old age. While I'm not glad that someone may have shot the bear, I am not going to lose sleep over it either. Hunters cannot tell if a wild animal is special or not. If it was shot by a hunter, he might not even know he shot Hope. I believe that last June people were also up in arms because this bear went missing and was basically abandoned by her mother. There is no way to tell if she is dead or just missing unless someone comes forth with the evidence, which I doubt they will do. I am thinking that maybe Hope just "ran away". I really hope I don't shoot Bobby the buck this fall by accident.

What really pulls my chain is reading all of the people that have no clue about hunters or hunting. I do believe that research should be done and also taught to our kids so they learn about nature. But giving names to the animals and making that animal humanized is irresponsible. The kids also need to learn about life and death in nature and how hunting or fishing impacts plus or minus to our wildlife. I totally believe in being responsible for our natural resources.

Comment from a news story:

"I read the article. I greatly dislike the human response to hunting animals being characterized as “management” of a wild species. For some reason most species did just fine without humans playing g o d by trying to “manage” their numbers. As far as I’m concerned, all hunting could be eliminated and I would not miss it!"

"Bear hunting is not hunting. It’s putting food out for weeks then one day gunning down the animal that is used to coming to get it. Bear meat is not even that good. Bears are also pretty smart. The only reason to do it is so you feel cool because you killed a bear and you get a rug or something. If you are a bear hunter and you want to feel like you earned it then go out to Montana and hike alone in the mountains with a pistol and a knife. If you walk out of there with a big griz then you can feel cool. Leave the little black bears alone you idi0ts."

"shot by A HUNTER?….LOL…..i dont think so…….these idiots who go into the woods and shoot unsuspecting bears that are baited are NOT HUNTERS any more than the people who sit in a tree and shoot deer are…..THAT IS NOT HUNTING…..that is merely killing an animal for no legit reason so call it what it is. These people who do this just want to shoot their gun and kill something, anything really. They are of low moral character, have “little man” complex, very little if any consciounce, and have a serious emotional disconnect…..there is NOTHING admirable about this kind of activity…..in life they too will get their just paybacks……maybe afterlife as well."

this is comical to see the nature lovers come out and cry about it. I am a nature lover too, but I believe in the life of hunting/fishing etc, so it is not a bad thing to me. It would be interesting to see if someone comes out and claims they harvested Hope! We are talking about a bear here, not a human being. Cmon man.....
