New baby

Recommended Posts

We picked up our new baby doe fawn tonight, and she is a cute tiny little thing. Our other doe yearling is walking around doing alot of sniffing trying to figure her out, they make a cute couple. Now we just have to find a buck fawn and we will be set.

Any name suggestions, I like backstrap but the daughter and wife are frowning on that name. frownwink

Last time I "picked one up" it cost me $168 fine! What do they cost at a game farm these days?

For the one we got is was $200 for a legal one with all the paper sent to the state, they don't cost much to feed and easy to keep healthy. The spendy part is the 8 foot fence but I had a bunch of 2" galvanized steel pipe I cut out on a job so that cut the cost.

Why would you own one? You do know about CWD and captive deer herds?

Frankly, I'm appalled captive deer are even remotely legal in this state. We keep this up and there's going to be catastrophe.

If it were up to me you'd need a 20' electric fence.

I own 2 because it's legal in this state and looking at getting a third sometime soon.

That made me laugh hard, Arch will have to read off a Q card fro a while, I just wonder where one deer pen raised an confined is gonna contract CWD. Maybe arch will get a bubble for "why would you own one" the bubble deer of northbranch. Mrklean we already shorten the name. three deer that is, whats the other names Arch? "already own one", an "gonna get a third" Boar

The yearling is Bambi of course and still no name on the new one, they don't see the humor in the names I come up with. It was fine when we had pigs to name one bacon and the other jimmy dean or the 3 turkeys named easter, thanksgiving and christmas but the rules have change with the deer I guess.

Is that why you raise them to eat? I don't care at all, just seems like one can get enough venison hunting without going to all that trouble. I'd feel like well that's one less I can shoot...

Looks like you have them started on alfalfa - do you feed them corn/apples as well? What's the weekly menu consist of

The local mill sell a deer feed wich has alfalfa pelets, soybeans and corn. I have that in a homemade gravity feeder they also get hay that you would feed horses and lots of treats like carrots and apple the kid also feed her jelly beans twizzlers and sweet tarts.

No we don't raise them to eat, I don't have a problem getting wild venni during the season. They are fun to have around and a great place to store my camos during the deer season wink
