Dark Cloud
Most of the store bought ones are good/great. Sometimes I like to tweak them by adding wholegrain mustard, ranch dressing, sweet n sour sauce, or hot sauce...If anyone gets out east check out a product by Dinosaur BBQ. The have three restaurants in NY - Syracuse, Rochester, and NY City. They started out in Syracuse with basically a biker bar that was serving great bbq. They do a great job but I am more impressed by thier "other" stuff like homemade sides - mac n cheese, slaw, pickles, ect... But they also sell thier sauces all over the place. My favorite is a Roasted Garlic Honey BBQ sauce they make. Also a WangoTango Habenero sauce. It is hot but I like to tame it down with some ranch dressing... reinhard1
everyone has different taste's and we all have our favorite sauces. the kind you describe dark from a small outfitt or bar are probably the better ones or the ones you discover by experimenting with a store bought and adding stuff to it. for example the ketchup/western dressing/apple juice mop sauce is the favorite of my family and friends that have tried it. not spicey enough for me so i fried up some garlic and jalapeno peppers in some olive oil and added that to the mix and put it in the food proccesser for a whirl and have my spicy version handy for me.i always tell people when you are serving family or friends, you are not grilling or cooking for you, it's for your guest's. so if you dont make your own bbq mix for a sauce or mop have your favorite brand ready with maby two or three different flavors on hand. people appreciate that personal attention. good luck. Leaky
just use equal amounts and if have to thin it as i do use apple juice or cider. hey, guess what i was shopping at cubs today and they had sweet baby rays for a buck a piece. looks like all week. today its sweet baby reinhards . let me know how you like it. good luck. It worked out great. I couldn't resist, though, doctoring it up a bit. Added the apple cider, some garlic powder, brown sugar, powered mustard and a splash of worchestershire. Looks like I'm off to Cub.

Silkworm
Usually mix a couple of Famous Dave's. Apricot Bourbon and Texas Pit go well together with a dash of the Devil's Spit if you like a little extra kick. The Sassy Chipotle goes well with the other sauces as well. I generally prefer to mix a spicy version with a sweeter one. I like to use the Devil's Spit on the side as a dip, just like I do when I'm in the restaurant.
