Late season mallard hunt when everything is freezing up and it's snowing like crazy and too nasty for the fair weather hunters to get out. Maybe drop a couple divers if they swing by too... Gotta love those days!

Here in SD every hunt is a great hunt.

Had a few different days last fall in which we shot honks, snows, and ducks.

1. Pool 9 Mississippi Quackers (never experienced it, but it's gonna happen this year)

2. Missouri - Snow Honkers (another one I haven't done but will be doing in Feb or March)

I can't get enough of field hunting mallards. A couple hundred/thousand birds buzzing and even walking around and waiting to pull the trigger when they finally center up at 10 yards!

I'm suprised no one said snow geese. Then again up until this spring I probably wouldn't have said it either. Getting those birds circling in definitely gets the blood pumping.

Don't be, surprised that is. Snows in East Central Saskatchewan. Pulled the pin last year because of the field conditions, but hoping for this fall. Layouts in the fields with thousands of snows dumping in is the absolute BEST rush. BC

I would think an early fall hunt for Snows in Canada would be amazing. They are fun enough in the spring after they've been shot at for about 8 months straight. I can't imagine what it would be like shooting some "fresh" birds

Many parts of SK and MB are even wetter this spring than last year. Check around it maybe slightly different areas than last year.

I'm pretty used to having a "great" duck hunt every single time I go duck hunting. I'd really like to get into the snows good this fall. We have alot of decent hunts where we shoot some but yet to have a great day shooting. Its definetly alot of fun even if we arent killing them like crazy though. Any hunt where I get to see lots of birds is a great hunt.

I'm heading to Canada in September. Will be my first time hunting up there. I am pretty fired up, should be an awsome time.

UWL, how's the water situation out there in Huron at the moment? I primarily hunt pheasants in your area, but have hit the ducks when the water is up also.

We were flooded really bad around here this spring. Water on the James River is still 4 feet above what is considered flood level but has gone way down from what is was at. Been getting alot of rain and their is still alot of water,their are ducks and geese everywhere! I hardly pheasant hunt at all, I just cant get away from chasin waterfowl. Its nice because around here everyones nuts about pheasants so the ducks and geese dont get pressured too hard. If you d

Sounds good. I like to get outta here for a week during the season as my area gets pounded pretty good. I'll keep tabs as the season gets closer for sure though. I don't blame ya for taking advantage of the lack of pressure. I wish that was the case over here. I'm headed out there next spring by Humboldt for Snow's, thinking that'll be an insane adventure as I've never hunted those before.

Guided or freelance? Freelance hunting snows can be the most frustrating and rewarding hunting of all waterfowl. Getting your butt kicked day after day by lead edge birds and then all of the sudden 1000 do it right and drop into the hole...4-10 guns raining out a flock. Man those are fun times!
