2011 Canada fishing trip, when are where?

Recommended Posts

I started this topic last acouple of years and always seemed to be popular with the replies and get some conversation going. Thought I would see what people are up too this year. Can be open water coming later or on the ice now.

Just curious whats the popular trend this year amoung the people reading this forum and Canada? What lakes/outfitters/time of year? etc etc. Are most of you already booked in to go somewhere or waiting to make reservations yet this year? Feel free to share, just wondering where everyone is heading this year. Will this be your first time to this lake your going too or been there before?

Hope everyone that comes this year enjoys they're trip and what Canada has to offer. If you have any questions about Canada, does not even have to reguard the outfit Im with, feel free to ask and Ill gladly give some answers about any Canadian issues or lakes or my 2 cents on a topic.

I'll have to keep track of this thread. My fiance' and I are thinking of doing a fishing trip to Canada this summer for our honeymoon. We thought about doing Alaska, but that's turning out to be too expensive for us right now. We might try to find something at the Mpls. Sportshow and get a good deal.

I'll be along on our group's usual trip to Canadian Rainy for the Memorial Day weekend. The next week I'm going with another group to a boat-in outpost on a lake north of Ignace. In late August it will be another trip north of Ignace to a group of lakes near Indian Lake. Then in late September I will be going to Separation Lake for an annual pike hunt. I usually have another trip or two, but my house will be getting some extensive renovations and I need to be around to keep an eye on the contractors.

Leaving tomorrow at 5:00 a.m. for my second trip up to stay on Pipestone for some lake trout fishing. The slush has me a little nervous, but not enough to damper my excitement too much. Then our annual trip over Memorial Day to chases lakers, walleyes, and crappies in the same area. Headed up over the 4th of July to take my girlfriend up there for the first time, followed by my annual 10 day stint up there 1 1/2 weeks later. Almost half of my July will be spent on the Pipestone Chain. Can you say heaven??

Annual trip with my dad to minaki end of july. The plan is for either a couples trip on a houseboat to LOTW labor day week or just me and the GF heading to minaki that week.

Wonder if traffic will be down due to the speculation of high gas prices?

Our group of 8, including my grandson, are heading to Canada the first part of June. We're flying in to Birch Lake with Northern Wilderness Outfitters out of Fort Frances, Ontario. It's a trip we do every other year with NWO, each time to a different lake. Fishing has always been fantastic, way more fish than we could possibly eat. We've been flying in with NWO for quite a few years now and I highly recommend them. They do a really nice job, have nice cabins and are very reasonably priced.

I love reading this thread!

I'll be on the Canadian side of Rainy for a 4 day Memorial weekend. In July I'll be taking 2 separate trips for 1 week each to the Canadian side of LOTW for Muskies. Hopefully in September I'll be back to Last Mountain Lake Saskatchewan.

I'm probably not going to do our annual trip to Lac Seul in June. Between home renovations and a son graduating from high school, I just don’t think I can swing it. I miss that trip.

Fish Head where will you be staying on Memorial Day? We fish the Red Gut area. I love Rainy that time of year. Lots of walleyes with several hogs coming into the boat, a good bite by the crappies and pike some big pike. Weather usually sucks and the rain suits get lots of use, but it is a great time to go to Canadian Rainy.

looking to make the three years in a row at Cliff and Roma's on Lake Savant, ON, but i need someone to go with...all the usual suspects can't make it this year! if anyone is interested in a 4-5 day trip up there let me know. it runs about $700 for everything total (probably even a

little less than that) for 5 days. amazing walleye, pike and lake trout fishing, and the greatest hosts in all of Canada.

Good to see lots of people are heading to Canada to fish this summer. Lets hear from everyone, neat to see where everyone is heading.

Deacon. Got a idea for you. We sent a newsletter out last week and for those who are not on our email list would know nothing of this. Might be worth checking into for your mid June trip. We had acouple of cancelation dates this winter for next June and using a silent Auction to fill in those cancelation gaps and just happens that the auction is open for bidding right now, Auction will be closing Feb 25th. Ill copy and paste the silent auction information below.

Silent auction: We are offering 2 trips. Each trip will be it's own separate auction in terms of the bidding. Please check our L & M web site for further information about each of the lakes mentioned.

Austin Lake - June 8-15, 2011

Austin Lake has walleye and northern

Otatakan Lake - June 13-18, 2011

Otatakan Llake has walleye and northern.

Rules to apply: Auction starts as soon as this newsletter is sent out and will close Febuary 25, 2011. If you wish to place a bid, email us with your bid and we will require the following information for the bid to be accepted.

1) Which one of the above listed trips that you are bidding on.

2) Price per person of your bid.

3) How many people will be in your group.

4) Your name, mailing address, and your phone number.

All bids are welcome. If you are the highest bidder when the auction closes, we will contact you (that is the reason why we are requiring your contact information) and a deposit will be required to secure the trip. In the event the highest bidder does not produce the deposit to secure the fishing trip, the 2nd highest bidder will be contacted, and so on so on. L & M reserves the right to hold a reserve bid. If you are interested in placing a bid, please email us and place Silent Auction Bid in the subject line of your email with the other information we have listed out in the email.

We are going to the Pipestone/Clearwater chain in late June/Early July, and usually stay at Trails End.

A classic story for you. Last summer, we went to a portage lake on the chain, Cedar, for a few hours of bass fishing. As I casted my line, my crankbait hit my friends pole/reel and knocked it into the water. We tried to retrieve it, but it kept sinking and fell to the bottom of the lake. As I was trying to fish it out as it was sinking, my friend kept a watchful eye on the spot he thought it went in. We started to cast weighted crankbaits to retreive it, and after about 15-20 minutes, my friend hooked it. Luckily; we got it into the boat. Just as he grabbed the pole from how it was hooked by his other pole, a smallie hit on the lure of the retrieved pole. Couldn't believe the luck, and a fish to boot!

In 2 months and 23 days, but who's counting, we'll be taking our 18th annual camping/fishing trip to the Canadian side of LOW. Some years we have 15+ people and others 6 but it's always great. I've only missed one, when I was in Vietnam for work.

Just got the 3rd trip booked on Lake Despair over Memorial week! We went twice last year and hope to do the same this year, but with expecting another little one this fall the 2nd trip may get skipped. We plan on exploring East and West Jackfishes a little more to see what they have to offer. We are also excited to hit the NE part of Rainy Lake again as the landing is just down the road and we tied into some great 26-30" eyes that made for some great tussels, great stories, and some awesome pictures!! We all ended up with our PBs out there! I had never been to Canada before then and am looking forward to keeping this an annual tradition with the family. Good luck to all of you headed up there and travel safe!
