stolen auger

big t-bone

Recommended Posts

my son was out last night on white bear w/ some buddies fishing for crappies, out from bellaire beach he and his friends walked out. another group of friends came out later, my son was fishing with his friend b (inside a flip over)he let the second group use his pop up eskimo. the second group didnt last very long (to cold) so they drove off while they were leaving they offered to take some of my sons stuff back to shore so he wouldnt have to carry so much back. they put in the back of his pickup (chevy ex-cab white w/checkered window also has a bed cover)unfortunetaly someone stole the eskimo ice auger out of the back of the truck. in hindsight he knows it wasnt such a good idea to be so far away from the equipment but whats done is done. he feels really bad because the auger was mine. i told him its just one of those things in life he has to learn from .i know the chances of ever seeing my auger again are slim to none . i just hope this doesnt happen to anyone else

That is a bummer! I have busted someone trying to lift my auger out of the back of my truck at a bait shop once, he told me he wanted to just see what kind it was (ya sure). Now I am very cautious about letting anything in the back of my truck when no one is in the truck.

yep. You cannot allow onthing to be in plain sight. Even in your locked car.

Yeah I had a Auger stolen out of the back of my truck when i was at a bait shop too. Now i have a Bike Lock in the form of a plastic coated cable with built in male and feamale lock receivers. I always lock it up to the truck or ATV when I travel to and from the lake.

It works great for locking a Generator or air compressor too!

I was never a topper fan but when I got my new truck I got a nice matching fiberglass topper with 2 locking handles just for this reason. Y they can break in but it keeps the honest people honest and makes the crooks work a lot harder.

My friend has had his ice armor gloves and his 4 rods jacked out the back of his truck in 2 different incidents this year. I am always worry about leaving my portable ice cube shack and a few other items in my car. I dont park my car down in the garage at my apartment and park it up in the cold I dont want to give them too much cover to brake in. I never leave my electronics in the car and for them most part try not to leave my augur in it.

I had a weird theft over the holidays. I keep two portables, a gas auger, a hand auger(cause i don't trust my jiffy), and about ten rod an reels in the back of my truck all the time. Well on x-mas day I race up to Red Lake to get the end of the day bite and I drill my holes and go back to the truck to get an ice scooper out and both the ones that I have had been jacked! Really put a damper on fishing. Of all the things that they could have taken they decide that they needed two old beat up scoopers. They could have stolen my piece of junk jiffy model 30 and I would have been happier about that.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I hate thieves! I lost a tool box and about $500 worth of tools at a job site once, still burns me up. Don't forget to go to the local pawn shops and bring any pics of it if you have any.

Yeah the way things go nowdays you need your name scribed onto everything just so you can hav ethe police do something about it and even then they would have to get out of the squad car to check... It really "ticks" a person off when we work hard to buy the expensive stuff and only to have it ripped off. I hope you do find it and get the pleasure of giving them some good ole' american justice... a good Arse whoopin' I would think also that you should keep an eye on [Note-from-admin-Please-don't-send-folks-there]. or even HSO-Classifieds. I went to the trouble of putting my name in the inside of the bowl from carb on my auger!!! Got to use it after someone holding onto it and dropping his tailgate. Never seen a guy cringe when I told him my name was on it and if he wanted the police to come check it was fine by me and his plate# would be turned in so they could. If he didn't have kids with him I would have beaten it out of him. Some example to set... Good luck!

It just doesn't surprise me anymore these days. Yesterday while on Mille Lacs my heater wasn't working so I left the lake to buy a new one at reeds. My buddy stayed in the house and fished. As soon as I left a couple guys fishing a few hundred feet from us walked over to my house. My buddy heard them say. " Those guys just left and left their house and fising gear behind" They were walking over to my house as they were entitled to my equipment. when they were within 30 feet my buddy opened the house as he was gonna get out to stretch. they turned around and walked back at that time. I am not sure if they would have tried to help themselves or not. but you never know these days.

That really sucks, a couple years ago I had my wheelhouse out on S. Center and a couple guys set up a portable not far from me. I could hear them cutting holes with a hand auger and went over and punched 4 holes for them. Went to bed that night and heard them pack up and leave. Next morning my auger was gone. I left it leaning up against the house, my fault I guess. My fishing gear now includes a 9mm.

If you have the Serial/Number, Go down to the DNR head quarters (St Paul) and File a theft report and or find out WHO are the C/Os covering White Bear lake and Personally contact one of them. I know that one of them live Not Far from You, and I will guarantee that every Eskimo auger found on the Ice will get a second look.

File a report with the White Bear Police Department (They may know who it could be?) & Ramsey County Sheriffs Department, Go back to the Parking Lot where your sons truck was parked and see if anyone has Serveillance cameras, You may be Astonished at what is pointed at you sometimes. I know the C/Os in that area would LOVE to here from You, and this will turn out to be a Quest or a Treasure Hunt on the Ice to Spice up the Day. You Have to show Proof the Auger is Yours before hand!

Good Luck!

When I was about 16 I had finally gotten a old used power auger from a small engine repair shop. wow it was great to not have to use the hand auger anymore! well about 3 weeks latter I leaned the auger up against my moms attached garage and some one stole it that afternoon while we ran into town. It really sucked but I learned a very good lesson that day about Ice augers and Minnesota.

Wow sorry for the loss man. Its a hard lesson to learn but I bet he will always watch over his stuff a little closer now.

I was on White bear last year end of the season went out late with a buddy just to pop a couple holes and have a couple beers. When i get out to the spot I want to fish I see a truck and two people hanging around the vehicle so I respectively keep my distance and go around stop the truck take a look at my GPS and notice a guy flashin his light at me. I got out of my truck and asked him what he needed. Now keep in mind I am about 30 yards away from this guy. He comes up to me says "Hey you just ran over one of my Jiggin holes!" I looked behind me he had about 15 holes in a line about 10 ft apart from each other an I managed to hit the last one. nobody was fishing it, No one was near it!

I told the Guy off he started to walk away i got in my truck as i put it in drive he tried to steel my Auger out of the back end!!!!

People are so Dumb!

I can't believe some of these stories about the brazen audacity of some people. I always just thought I was being over paranoid with some of the measures I take. I keep my ice house in my pickup truck bed that has a topper on it. I put a bolt through where the hitch would go. I have a small plastic coated cable that is run through the U bolt on the pickup bed. I have a longer thicker bike lock cable also in the truck. I put the thicker cable around the auger handle and through the loop on the cable. Next I run it through the loop on the smaller cable and then padlock it to the house. I know it would simply take some tools to free it all up but it's going to cause a scene if someone was attempting to free the stuff. The stuff in the house you'd have to get the house open to get most of it so at most someone could feel around and steel a couple rods and/or scoops but oh well again it would cause a bit of a scene.

On top of all that I can lock the topper window that opens but that really only takes a decent yank to have it cut loose so it's not going to stop anyone. Just seems stupid that others can't simply work hard to get things like the rest of us have to.

Sorry to hear about the theives getting your auger!!!!

After reading these things it makes me feel better that I always am paranoid about my stuff getting yanked from the back of the truck when my fishing group wants to stop for a drink or bite to eat or even bait. I always seem to want to keep an eye on the truck and I always get grief from the guys because of it......oh well at least I have not had anything stolen from my truck yet!!!!

I am the same way! I am fortunate enough that with the big tub on the frabill 7080, I can keep ALL of my gear in the house, and it doesn't get in the way.

    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
