I just looked at Monday's forecast. Possibly 5 to 9 inches of more snow. With the temps hanging in the low 20s, that slush is finding a hard time to melt, and this is just gonna make it worse. Testing in my lake is still only bringing solid ice around 4-8 inches, depending on the depth.

Just GRRRR.

Zoob what lake do you live on? Are those measurement seem to be across the whole lake or scattered around? I was thinking of going to Chisago tomorrow. I'm guessing that a wheeler is less than ideal for getting around most lakes right now.

I live on South Lindstrom, opposite end of the channel, near Beach Park.

I took a couple measurements today, I had 7-8 inches of ice in one, then went out about 40 more yards into maybe 10-15 feet of water and found just 4-5 inches of ice in that area (although all of that was good solid ice).

There's a *ton* of slush under the snow, though - lots of standing water just under the snow cover. Kind of a creepy feeling when you sink 4-5 inches suddenly, and water fills up around your boots.

There's been quite a few people already out on the lake; and some ATVs and snowmobiles. The channel has had lots of company for a few weeks now. This last saturday there were a good 6-7 popups in the main lake area into the late evening, most all had ATVs or sleds with them, and thankfully all of them were smart and parked the sleds a good clip away from where their shelters were put up. This afternoon there were a group of three ATVs together (in my spot!), too.

With the snow blanket and the standing water/slush, I'm just not comfortable with it yet. My brain keeps wanting to say, "that standing water is heavy. The ice isn't thick enough yet." Plus I put my pop-up in place and anchor it down and don't move it all year -- and if I were to do that now, it'd freeze rock-solid right to the exposed slush. I'd have to tie life-jackets on it at the end of Feb, so it could float home when it finally melted free. :-)

To top it all off - the 5-9 inches we're expected to get over Monday afternoon; along with mid-to-low 20s all week, is really going to retard the freezing. The snow is just keeping the lake warmer and it's really slooooow in building up a good coat of ice.

oh sure snowshoes work great, but i'm not about to haul around a 3 person porty with gear loaded(aprox. 200 lbs) out 300 yds from shore! plus if one is not used to wearing them, it gets quite clumsy! thankfully we were missed up here by the last storm, very little snow on lakes with great ice! the way it looks though, i dont think we'll dodge this bullet, we'll see!

I know of a way to get around on the snow & slop, Use snowshoes. I did that and my feet didn't even get wet. You don't fall thought the snow and worked great for pulling the portable around.

+1, I think i'm going to get a pair, there alot cheaper than a snowmobile.

I wore my snowshoes (Tubbs with cleats) when I was out testing holes this last weekend. I'd still sink into the wet (although not nearly as much as I had with just my boots).

I definitely agree they make traveling the snow easier; I do wonder how much more difficult a fall-through in the ice would be with a pair on, though.

Hey it might melt some snow so when it gets cold again everything will finally freeze!

Cross your fingers that's what happens!!! Getting some of the snow off the ice can only help at this point.

/sigh

Well, at least that'll melt any snow-cover. If we can get a solid freeze after, we might be in good luck for the rest of the season. I just hope the rain and warmth doesn't screw with the decent ice we've slowly built up so far.

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.

      I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.

      reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
