Snowy Weekend

DooWap

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking the same thing most of the week. Although I'm not hunting until the muzzle-loader season, I wish I was hunting this weekend.

White-tails are in full-rut. Cold, cloudy, possibly snowy weather finally coming. This should keep em' moving around a bit more. Certainly better than last weekend anyway.

Good luck out there, and be safe. It should be a great weekend to be out. Just leave one big one for me, okay? laugh

After checking the weather forecast for Aitkin I wish I was hunting down there this weekend. My favorite stand has the only large patch of spruce trees in the area, when it snows the deer head right for the pines. One morning a few years ago my dad shot 3 deer right before it started snowing.....

I wasn't planning on gun hunting this year. Too busy bow hunting early and pheasant hunting lately, but this snow is looking all to tempting. I might have to pick up a license later today.

I cant remember, is their a wait period? I'll look it up just to be sure.

24 hour waiting period on your regular tag, and for some reason it's midnight to midnight 24 hours. If you buy one today (Friday) it won't be valid until legal shooting hours begin on Sunday morning if I'm reading the laws correctly. However, bonus tags are valid right after purchase.

You guys are correct. I wont be going until sunday anyways, so I'll go pick one up now.

License Purchase and Validity

All deer licenses (archery, firearms, muzzleloader) may be purchased

at any time before or during the season. However, a license purchased

on or after the day the respective season opens is not valid until the

second day after the day it is issued (for example, a license issued on

Saturday would not be valid until Monday). A “day” means midnight

to midnight.

The weather front is triggering movement. My dad called and said he saw 3 bucks and 3 does tonight. He shot an 8 with an 18 inch inside spread. So now I will drive down and help cut up a deer and don't have to sit out in the cold since we are now filled out.

KULE!

6:00 p.m. news is ramping up this storm even more. Any of you boys in the cities better get outta there post haste, or you might not get out at all!

6-8 inches of snow from TC to Duluth and areas in between. This should really get em' movin' this weekend.

Frank. Is there any other way to hunt? Nothing like stalking them in fresh wet snow! Good luck to you and your boy (or girl?).

We are heading out in the morning for the Canadian boarder area. Plan to hunt till the end of the season. Six of us been going the Second week of the zone one season for 12 years. You couldn't get us back to the opener. Bring on the snow.

Best of luck to you all!! I'll be nice and warm sitting in my man cave watching it snow!! AND... double checking my gear for late season bow hunting. I already have two butchered but could always use more sausage!! Yummy!!!

If I was blanked right now... Or chasing a bruiser, you can bet the ranch I'd be headed out this weekend!!

Stay safe!! Good luck to all!!!

This snow really sucks!! Way too heavy to even enjoy it. Lots of cars in the ditch and the power is out more often then it is on. I talked to a few hunters that were out this morning but once the trees got too heavy with snow they said it was too dangerous to even be in the woods with all of the trees and branches falling.

I was just out in the woods and it was kind of tough walking. Not from the snow on the ground but from the branches hanging so low. I seen a couple of trees that had been brought down.

The thing I liked the least was the flash of lightning and the rumbling thunder. Kind of spooky in a snow storm.

I love the snow but I hunted near Grand Rapids Saturday and Sunday and didn't see a deer. I got soaked sitting Saturday evening and visibility was poor. The snow on the ground is nice but the snow in the trees made it impossible to see anything that wasn't in a clear spot. I had one huge track that led right up to my ladder Sunday morning so I just missed whatever was walking around. The deer moved before daylight on Sunday as we had fresh tracks past every stand and a freshly vacated deer bed 20 yards behind my brother's stand. I hope the snow sticks around on the ground for next weekend.

I had the same problems as most of you guys. Most of the trails were blocked by hanging branches covered with snow Sunday morning. That and no visibiltiy made it not such a great hunting weekend for me outside Duluth. I think we got close to 10 inches where we were. Luckily we had a dryer to use so we at least had dry clothes when we went out Sunday morning after sitting out Saturday and getting soaked.
