What would leave a gut pile like this??

BLACKJACK

Found this on my driveway, about 50 feet from my house, the other morning. I think its leftover from a cottontail rabbit but what kind of predator would be so picky? Coon? Cat? Mink? Owl? I didn't find any fur, bones, or head, just the stomach and guts.

Human? It would be rare to find a predator that would kill a critter and extract or leave such a complete pile of entrails.

When you gut a deer and check the gut pile a few days later, whats the last thing thats left? The stomach. So I'm not surprised to see this left, just was wondering what critter would do it. And it wasn't a person, we have a long driveway, the dogs would have raised a ruckus.

A possible explanation is birds or (bird) of prey.I watched two owls one night kill a rabbit. The smaller owl tried to grab the prey as the larger one flew away with it's prize. There was a allot of "parts"left over after the scuffle.c63
