What line do you guys n gals use for dock skippin'?

I have been using 14lb crystal and I loved it last year but for some reason this summer has been horrible for that line. alot of break offs and alot of lost tournaments because of it.

Every time the line rubs a pole or cross bar on a dock I check and test pull the line every time. usually end up retying it . Its breaking about 1-3 feet above the knot.the line is about 2-4 weeks "old" and I dont fish very much this year compared to last year.(about once a week now) I store all of my rods in the house or temprature controlled garage. I have checked all my rod guides and they are fine.I use higher end rod and reels so I have no idea what else to do other than change to a different line.

thanks for any input.

I too us 30# power pro on spining tackle. I can't skip baitcasters under docks. (BACKLASH). If the water is clear I tie a back to back uni knot or a blood knot to 20 lb flouro. I've found that senko style baits skip the best and furthest under docks and or pontoons.

I have always used 14lb. Fireline Crystal as well. I have never broke off a fish but I have had big ones wrap around posts and go through rungs in ladders that I couldn't stop for fear of breaking them off. Maybe stronger line is called for...

I guess I'm late to the party...I use fireline almost all the time. It seems that most of you use power pro. What are the advantages of power pro over fireline? thanks

It's round (fireline is shaped like a 2x4) so it casts better on baitcasters. It also doesn't fray like fireline (fireline will fray in less than a year of heavy use, it takes over 2 years to fray Power Pro). Otherwise they perform similarly. Power Pro does tend to absorb water though (and bleeds it's color). Doesn't affect fishing unless it's 40 degrees and your hands are getting soaked. Other braids are slightly more expensive but tend to hold color better and absorb less water, but otherwise performance is pretty similar across the board.

Power pro is the only braid that has snapped on me way more than once on the cast with a bait caster! Its almost as bad as floro. get a back lash with pp and u are better off just cuttin it out and puttin new line on. ive fix a few back lashes then 2 cast later after retying the lure it breaks in the reel and there goes my 10 dollar rap . but this year has been better for pp for me tho.it's like fireline and pp quality and dependability has switch for me.
