Sun glasses

the 580 model look very good but they look a little more flimsy compared to wiley x . prices r the same.

What model? I have had CDM Wavekillers for 3+ years and I can say that they are extremely solidly built. My wife has a pair of CDM Swordfish and they are pretty solid, too. I also have Smiths that I like, but in fishing situations, I prefer the CDMs.

The Wiley x are comparable to the CDM 400P series but the 400G and 580 are steps above.

I have a pair of all 4 and I love them all. I use the Wileys for shooting and driving all the time and love them. I wanted to try the CDM so I found some on sale. The first two pairs were 400P and 400G series. The 'P' are polycarbonate lens like the wileys, mine have interchangeable lenses. But once I put the 400g (glass) Costas on the difference was immediately noticeable, between them and the Wileys. When my 580s just recently arrived I couldn't beleive there was even another step higher to go in vision quality. But there was.

Checkout the other sunglasses thread under Equipment Tab.

I should mention that mine have the 400G lenses.

If you're patient, there are deals to be found. There's a HSOforum called Steep and Cheap where you can get some killer deals on Costas if you time it right (careful, it can get very addictive!). I think I paid $45 for my wife's Swordfishes. Just gotta know what you want and keep vigilant with it.

I've worn oakleys for the past five years and got my first pair of costa 580s this year. The costas are far and away better than my oakleys were. Not only are the lenses extremely clear and crisp, but the "grips" on the inside of the frames make them very comfortable after a long day on the water.

I have 400P with Amber/Gray/Vermilion interchangeable lenses.

400G in Green Mirrored / Copper

580G in Plain non-mirrored gray.

I love them all, but the color combination on the Green Mirrored ones, make them my favorite.

I have always had Oakleys. First were Frogskins in 1989 or 90, then came Razor Blades in 91. Had those until 95, and they are currently on the bottom of the ocean on Guam. After they were sunk I bought Sub Zeros, then a few years back I bought Minutes. Last september, I bought Lance Armstrong "LiveStrong" Flak Jackets. The lenses are scratched horrbily already and I am extremely disappointed in them. It isn't from abuse- I take very good care of anything I own. They are nice sunglasses- but seems Oakleys quality has gone down hill. Guess I am going to have to get some Costas and try em out now

Does anyone trust buying a pair of CDM 580's off of e bay. Im looking at a pair of Blackfin 580 Silver Glass and online at CDM HSOforum they are $249.00 and on e bay they are $180.00. I would definitely love to buy these for $180 just not sure if its the real deal. Any advice?

I don't have any advice as to buying them off of e bay. However, I strongly suggest you try that exact model of glasses on from a retailer before you buy them. They may be the best quality lenses and frames, but if they do not fit your face well, you won't like them after 8 hours of fishing. I had a pair of Maui Jims I loved, but after about 2 hours they were so uncomfortable I couldn't wear them. They have been in the glove compartment of my truck for two years now without being worn.

That being said, I have the 580 Costa Fathoms and I love them.

Well said Ducks.. I at one point was going to buy a very expensive CDM frame and tried them on.. SOOOOO not good for my face.. I am one ugly dude, and these hurt and did not work.. I currently wear Man-O-War frame and love em.. but to each persons big ugly head..

I have 400G Ponce with blue mirror/copper lens and they are just fantastic. Glass is the only way to go. Deitz has a great point, I work at a gander in the south metro and that is really the only true way to prove the difference to a customer(or anyone interested). Once you get them out in the sun and actually compare them to other P lenses there really is no comparison.
