Dahitman44
The Twins need some starting pitching (obviously) and I have an idea on what to do.I wanted Lee, don't want Oswalt (injury, price plus no-trade to AL)so where does that leave us?Yep in Cubbie land.I have followed the Cubs for years and have always liked third-baseman Ramierez and SP Ted Lilly.Lilly is not fancy but he might be our man.I know he gets to strike out pitchers abouyt every time up, but doesn't every babeball team have a Punto-type hitter? Sure he is better than a pitcher but ...Some say that his style does not translate to to AL but I wonder why? He is a strike out per inning guy and only faces a pitcher three times per start. -- that means he still striks out other players on average about 8-9 ks per nine innings. That means he is still getting about 5 to 7 ks of non-pitchers, right?I think Lilly is a good middle of the road option for this team. Lee and Oswald would have been nice but that didn't happen. I would give up Blackburn and a hicks type of hitting prospect. Maybe Ramos too if we can sign him long-term.Here is his stats...in 07,08,09,10IP W L H BB Ks ERA WHIP207.0 15 8 0 174 55 181 3.826 1.1401 204.2 17 9 0 184 64 187 4.099 1.2292177.0 12 9 0 151 36 151 3.102 1.0565 111.3 3 8 0 81 26 99 3.880 1.1228Any thoughts? What is he worth to you guys?Hey WINDY? Why is everyone dogging Lilly?
soldoncass
I'd have to look Lily up....but wasn't he in the AL at one time? If so ,I remember him frustrating the TWIN'S a few times, might be worth a look. Price shouldn't be too high for him. Reminds me of Buehle or Nate Robertson....hitters RUN up to the plate to face him, then CRAWL back to the dugout frustrated they couldn't hit him. harvey lee
I would be willing to try almost anyone the way some of the starters have been this season.

Dahitman44
I would go Black Balls and a hitting prospect for Lilly if he could be signed long-term. No rent-a-player!
Dahitman44
Haren would be great too - -but I HEAR he is a "Turkey" in the locker room. Plus he gets hurt and he would cost -- Blackie, Bakie and Majaris and a young hitter I would guess.
mrklean
Lilly and Bret meyers i think are our two best options right now were not a team that goes out and trades for the super star which is why i laughed with this whole cliff lee thing. Dahitman44
$-got about Myers - -I would go get him -- he can and does strike people out -- we could use some of that ...What do you think Myers would cost?Anyone?
Jarrod32
Lilly pitched for the A's before going to Toronto. He was so-so in the AL, and has been markedly better in the NL.
greebs
I keep seeing posts on the star trib about this guy by the name of Josh Johnson from the Marlins I believe. Can't say I know much about him though.
Windy City Walleye Hunter
Hate to fuel the enemy camp (LOL) but he had a pretty good outing against the Sox this year. They have already talked about this trade in Chicago and thought the Twinks might want him to knock a few games vs the Pale Hose!
Coach1310
His numbers are decent, but he doesn't have the stuff to be a GOOD pitcher in the AL. There is not a pitcher available that warrants trading Hicks.... if they wouldn't let him go for Lee, they shouldn't let him go for anyone else... genegodawa
Some of you guyz wanting a Cubbie? He has been much better than I expected.
Dahitman44
Josh Johnson is awesome and we would never get him. He is a power pitcher that is still very young. Ricky Nolasco is more likely but still zero chance.
mrklean
i think we could get meyers cheap plus his salery is pretty low to i think. If johnson is on the market we have even less of a chance of getting him then lee, i think the yanks are really gonna start shopping to get another big name pitcher. What do you guys think if we could get Burnett? If we could get the yanks to pick up a large chunk of his salary he seemed to be a bust for them and they want him gone. JBMasterAngler
Trade mauer for burnett, then we'd actually be freeing up some money

Can't say I know much about him though. josh johnson is just going to win the NL cy young this year. no bigs. he is also from the twin citiesin all reality, we have a better chance of trading for a rod than we do for JJ. marlins are not letting go of this guy
Dahitman44
Would love Josh - -but never get him. Would take Burnett but not for what they would want.Lilly and Myers are 2 good options still ...Intereasting -- the starters last time through 1.06 ers ... but that was the birds and not the yankees or sox ... PierBridge
Haren to the Angles! That hurts and they should make run at the Rangers now with another solid pitching move.
mrklean
blackburn gave up what 3 runs out of the pen yesterday? I think that dude is a lost cause now
DonBo
blackburn gave up what 3 runs out of the pen yesterday? I think that dude is a lost cause now Gotta agree. He's got options left, send him down. Now. Bring Perkins back to the bullpen.
PierBridge
I thought I heard Perk had an insanely high ERA down there?I think Black will be alright once he adjust. Unlike Slowey he has a pretty decent attitude generally speaking.,

Mudcutter
Ted Lilly?? IN the AL?? NO WAY. Not any better than what the Twins are throwing right now. Starting pitching is really tough this year,, a long shot being he's in the Twins DIV,, but Soria out of the pen would be sweet and free up another arm for dead starts every 5 game with Blackie tankin. I do think Blackie will get things in order,, just going thro a rough stretch. Trade Cuddy, Ramos and Mijares for a big time stud!!!!! For some reason, I see the Twins going middle of the road and ending up with a semi-old Oswalt,, but it would put them over the top in the Central.
