I was always told if I don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything.

Can't dissagree, but you can't argue with what he's accomplished, even if you don't agree with how he's done it.

I know how a lot of you think in regards to George and up until a few years ago I might have been right there with you. My inlaws retired a few years back down in the Clearwater Florida area and my mother in law who is probably a bigger White Sox fan than I am (if you can believe that) said that the things that George has done in the Tampa area are unbelievable. He has donated millions and millions of dollars for local high schools and sports programs and charitable events. They even named the high school that my neice goes to after him. Sometimes there is more to a man than meets the eye.

I have always been a Yankee hater and did not like the way they go about their business with trying to buy a championship year after year but I am going to give the guy a pass and just say RIP.

Can't blame the guy for taking advantage of our Great American free market society we live in.

The great thing about America is that you can have any opinion you want. Remember folks, Ol' nice guy George has always been against profit sharing, salary caps, and competitive balance in general. Now I can't "blame" him for it, but I can sure despise him.

RIP indeed (mwhhaaa haha)

I was listening to Dan B. on the Fan and have to admit that I was wrong about George and should really be mad at the owners and the commish.

Steinbrenner just did what he was allowed to do and without a salary cap and a MLB TV contract for ALL teams with equal revenue sharing.

I think that I would rather direct my disgust at Bud Selig winkgrin

I hear a lot of Twins fans on this board wanting the Twins to spend some money in free agency to fill some gaps in the lineups. They want their team to make a move at the trade deadline to improve their team's chances to make the playoffs. George Steinbrenner did all that. Year in and year out.

He did what every fan wants the owner of their favorite team to do. He owned the team and he wanted to win. And he did what it took to win. Why would he (or should he) have done any less?

Agreed, there's obviously good and bad you can say about Steinbrenner but he was the kind of owner every fan wants. RIP.

the man who RUINED baseball

Yep. Say what you want people, the man was EVIL. You all forget about the way he treated people. Witch hunts against Minnesotas own Dave Winfield, racist comments and actions against Reggie Jackson, and don't forget the way he fired managers like I change underwear. These are only the tip of the iceberg, it wasn't all about the way he spent money, thats just a piece. He was a piece of work.

RIP George!!!

The stats for him are unreal.....bought the Yankees in 1973 for $8.7 million and he only used like $170,000 of his own money and now the team is worth an estimated $1.5 billion.....WOW

I would say the majority of people in the world have done somethings there not proud of, it just happens he owns the Yankees. There is nothing wrong with working within the system to put out the best product you can. Don't hate the person hate the system of baseball.

RIP George

Nobody is mentioning his FELONY conviction either.

I don't wish death for people I dislike, but just because he is dead doesn't mean we need to kiss his *** all of a sudden.

The man treated many people with very little respect, and now we are supposed to pay him our respects.......whatever

And FYI, most "charitable" stuff done by large organizations is nothing more than a PR grab. If you routinely treat people like **** all year and then do a nice thing here or there, I think your character has already been revealed.

Wow,

I guess next to George, Bob Probert the multiple convicted felon, drug smuggler, jail time server, drug addict, alcoholic and cop fighter was just a saint! I guess neither of these men should RIP, I guess they should rot in He.....

Those who are perfect can fill in the last two letters!
